Zenit want Arshavin

Zenit want Arshavin

Russian Premier League side Zenit St Petersburg have confirmed they would be interested in re-signing unsettled Arsenal midfielder Andrei Arshavin.

Arshavin, who joined Arsenal for a club record £15 million fee in January 2009, has struggled to hit top form this season and the Russia international has been linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer.

His former club would welcome back the 29-year-old, if Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger decides to sell him.

"Zenit's doors are always open for Andrei," Zenit's sporting director Igor Korneev told Talksport.

"If his situation at Arsenal does not improve and he's not comfortable in London, we can study this issue in time for next season."

Blah blah blah. If only!

Something tells me Wenger wouldn't make his usual 500% profit on this sale.

We'd never get back what we paid for him so I can't see AW agreeing to that unless there are no other offers on the table.

I'd be surprised if Wenger thought he'd be able to recoup most of the original outlay. He was 27 when we signed him so we got him at his prime; the intervening 2 years are his peak years. He's nearly 30 so I can't see many clubs coming in and bidding upward of even £10m for him, if that.

And it would be better to get something rather than little or nothing... if we do sell.

There was a huge loss on the Reyes transfer, I'm thinking money wouldn't be a hugely influential factor just so long as £10m is put on the table. He hasn't performed for a long time and he hasn't got inexperience to hide behind like some of the other players Wenger stands by, so a loss is more than expected... welcomed even.

I doubt he'll go but I wouldn't be too fussed if he did.

Look at the line-up in my signature and fall in love with it... it don't need no Arshavin!

It does need wingers however.

I prefer "slightly wider, creative midfielders" to wingers in that formation. Players who can go down the flank if needed, but more often than not add to the central build up play, with the width coming from the fullbacks. It would suit so many of our players, and more out-and-out wingers can come on to change the shape, i.e. Ryo (in a year or so) and Theo inplace of Wilshere and Nasri.... yugetme!

Nah....

We need wingers, its our achilles heel along with our defence.

We will need pacy, powerful wingers if we ever go back to a 4-4-2.

More like Overmars and Ljungberg.

Either way, all three of them were powerful runners, i do not subscribe to this Nasri is like Pires bullshit, yes, they may share attributes but they are entirely different.

Pires was a LW, loved playing there, and played in that position for nearly his entire career, Nasri does not enjoy playing on the left, he is pining after a spot in the centre.

The most successful Arsenal sides under AW have been built on power, pace, classic counter attacking and clinical finishing, it was winning formula that never should have been changed.

Don't sell him unless we are gonna replace him as look at our bench in games our strongest players are Ramsey, Chamakh, Bendy. AA is the only player that can come on and do something and with our team being "injury prone" we need constant replacements we haven't got anyone to fill Walcott or Nasris spot out on the wing.

The only proven winner in red and white at this club? Arsene Wenger. Sack the board.

I'd keep him to be honest, something I wouldn't have said earlier this season. He may not be at his best but he certainly seems to be trying to fight through it. I have seen him put in a lot more effort at both ends of the field recently. Maybe its just temporary or maybe a light bulb went off.
I still think he can be a very useful player though.

£10 million would easily be put on the table.

I'd keep him too, but if we can get someone like Hazard then I'd take £8-10m for Shava.
