Arshavin struggling to get over Russia's World Cup failure

Arshavin struggling to get over Russia's World Cup failure

Sky Sports wrote:Arsenal star Andrey Arshavin admits he is struggling to overcome the heartache of failing to reach the World Cup finals.

The Russian playmaker saw his hopes of making South Africa next summer disappear after losing in the World Cup play-off against Slovenia.

And Arshavin admits he is struggling to adapt back to life back at Emirates.

"I'm inconsolable and desolate at what's happened," he told the Daily Mirror.

"My family keep telling me I should forget it as soon as possible, that I should now switch to club matters and the Champions League, but that's easier said than done.

"Nothing has revived me so far.

"When Arsene Wenger asked me what state I was in, I honestly told him that at the moment I just don't want to play football.

"He talked to me for a long time. He said, too, that I need to switch my attention. But I can't do it yet."

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger admitted the player was not in the right frame of mind to start in last weekend's 1-0 defeat at Sunderland.

"He came back from Slovenia very down and that's the main reason I didn't play him from the start against Sunderland," said the Frenchman.

Well he's gonna have to.
If Shay Given & Co can return from the heartache they got and play well for Citeh then he can too.

Well, if there's any game that's gonna get him fired is tomorrow's, as my Dad said.

Hard to blame him for being down about it, Russia really should have qualified.

But it's not the national team paying his wages.

Yeah you're right.

Having said that though, he is the captain of Russia so maybe he feels responsible for their failure?
I can't help wondering whether this is all symptomatic of his struggle to fit into London life in general.
If he was really enjoying his time in the UK and wasn't missing home so much then failing to qualify would've had less of an impact imo.
He needs to settle in here and fast.

Bit harsh I know, but seriously... you're a professional. Shit happens, things don't always work out... but you don't sit around and pout about it. Get up, dust yourself off and get back in there.

I'd be a huge ball of mushy goo if I sat around and pouted every time life got me down...

Bit more insight into the Arshavin situation, seems like he's taken a lot of the blame, and there've been rumours he was out drinking the night before. Don't believe that.

He seemed a bit better today.

But lately you can tell he doesn't even want to be out there, but that was before the loss too.
