It is not just that, it is that they treat you like you are Josef Fritzl's accomplice for wanting more than two.

Guys you should go into CO-OP they will give you free carrier bags ...whoopee

problem is they are so small you can only fit in a 4 pack bog roll or a loaf of bread so you end up buying f***ing a bag for nearly each item bought.
Also round here to stop shops selling beer to underage kids even if you buy one can you get a carrier bag with police notice and the name of the shop so if anyone under 18 gets someone over 18 to buy them beer they know what shop it comes from and the police then check shops cctv to find out who bought the beer for them...
If kids under 18 ask me to buy them beer i take their money and tell them i have confiscated it and that they should ring the police to tell them what i have done..ha ha

Six years later .......

Bump!

The new government charge is a farce.

Biodegradable plastic does exist but its more expensive. Just use that!

Which shops are charging for this?

B&Q wanted 5p from me today, can't remember if Tesco's charged me or not?

Its an absolute embarrassment, biggest of all is that for 70 years+ this was never a "must" thing and after all this time they try to force this crap on the shopping industry?

If it was so important why not do it 20 years ago? absolute sham.

Could at least only charge 2p or something, most of us would be happy to part with loose coppers.

All companies which employ over 250 staff must charge 5p by law

Its not the 5p I care about. Its the nonsense of being told that I'm a terrible person for using plastic bags when that is usually all thats on offer. Should I ballance my shopping on my head instead? Am I supposed to permanently carry a rucksack around in case I decide to do some food shopping?

I suggest that seeing as GVMT now insists that every bag is a commodity worth 5p, everyone should insist on paying their council tax with carrier bags instead of money.

If only.

Its all getting ridiculously shady, how many other ways are they going to try to screw us into paying extra tax?

I've also noticed my Road tax sneaking up by £10 each year, who the hell is the watchdog on these guys anymore? nobody is speaking up against this and the bodies that are in place are mostly bought and paid for officials to make a squeak for public display then forget about it 5mins later.

"We think Council tax is too high and unfair ......... okay now moving on".
