Love cod. Never been fishing myself though. Can't see myself eating something that's just been caught.

Remember 20 odd years ago back home in India or Pakistan, I don't remember which. They all look the same. My uncle had a goat. Called the butcher. Cut the goat up in front of us and cooked that day. Having seen all the blood and stuff, no way I was going to eat that.

Had it the next day. Very nice.

A friend of mine who is of Italian descent went to Italy with his young family and stayed with grandparents in their country cottage.

He went for a walk with his 7 year old daughter one day, and on the way back they passed a house that they had seen a few times that had rabbits running around the front garden - and a sign in Italian saying they were for sale. His daughter pleaded with him to buy her a rabbit that she could keep at her grandparents until she went home. In the end he agreed, so they went over and asked the man for a rabbit. They agreed a price, and as his daughter stood excitedly waiting for her new pet, the man walked over, picked up a rabbit, snapped its neck and held it out for my friend to take.

LOl! We went on a student cruise back in 1972 to Portugal and the Canaries. While on Madeira we went past a meat market and my girl friend who was horse person saw three nice stallions hanging in the stalls ready to butcher. Oh my....that was an experience for her.

This is why most folks in the UK have no idea about nature or reality! "If you kill it you eat it or wear it" is the responsible outdoors man's credo, so suggest urbanites take on one that states " If I eat it I will kill it". God help the wolf that worries about the deer he must kill to survive.

This is a thread for real men, not animal rights pussies! BTW, goat is wonderful. So is squirrel. Especially grey squirrels which are invasive in the UK and are doing great harm to red squirrel populations. Eat a grey squirrel, save a red squirrel!

I do love the Ozarks, my wife had family in N Arkansas due to business and their neighbors were salt of the Earth folk. Greer's Ferry lake and the Little Red below the dam are wonderful! Her uncle had a junk shop in Bald Knob...and the locals would bring in old batteries, aluminum and copper wire for cash. Then they would sit down and play poker and he would win all his money back. Life is tough!

Goat, if you ever can crash a Mexican goat roast do it. In the Bahamas there are feral goats on some islands. We used to run over to Long Key and chase them. Out Bahamian friends were the best athletes I have ever seen. They would see a small herd and off they would go, and within a few minutes they were back with a couple goats. Then it was feast night outside our lodge and the whole village was there. I also have had it in Nepal as curry, but Nepalese curry could contain goat or raccoon but it was so hot you would not know the difference. One day a local we had hired asked if we wanted some rhino meat...we said no and reminded him why we were there in the first place and what his job was. Security!

I ate a lot of rabbit when I was a kid.

Nice meat. A bit like the chicken thigh dark meat. Lots of little bones to watch out for.

I'd eat it again. My Mrs wouldn't. But then she's never had it.

I recall the butchers on Bromley High Street with rabbits, pheasant, duck and the like hanging in the window unskinned and unplucked. Imagine the outrage now!

Yes. Our local butchers all had rabbit hanging outside.

If you go to Leadenhall market in the City you can still find all the game birds hanging outside at that time of year.
