Starman why don't you post some scenes from films made when you were a kid

Like Gone With the Wind or some old George Formby films maybe

The opening scene from Saving Private Ryan is one of the greatest and most humbling bits of cinema I've ever seen.

It's so weird to watch that and think about the millions of lives lost during that war and how each life could have been yours if you were born in a different time or place.

Having thought back to it, I'll probably watch it again tonight.

Not probably listed as an all time great film, but the scene in Pursuit of Happiness when he gets the job and he starts welling up always makes me tear up, simply for the fact that hes fighting so hard to keep it together after he's achieved what he's fought for his whole life, which is to take care of his family.

Silence of the lambs - the buffalo bill dungeon scene

"It puts the lotion in the basket else it gets the hose again". What a f***ing nutter.

Isn't the general consensus that the books are amazing but the films are shit?

I have a hard time believing there are great scenes in Harry Potter.

Still need to read them.

General consensus that the books are better, but the movies aren't shit.

The soundtracks alone add immensely to the experience. The casting for the majority of the main cast was impeccable and the actors really brought the characters to life. Slughorn, Umbridge, Mad-eye, Snape, Lucius Malfoy and Bellatrix among others were so well portrayed it's almost impossible to separate the book character from the actor.

(SPOILERS)

As for great scenes, I'd say Harry flying Buckbeak in POA, Harry's possession in OOTP, Aragog's funeral in HBP (or, rather, the whole Liquid Luck sequence), Harry and Hermione dancing in DH part 1, Courtyard Apocalypse in DH part 2 and the Resurrection Stone in DH part 2.

What's also interesting about these scenes is that 3 of them are completely original without the book's influence, and the other 2 were adapted to make them even better.
