Status Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt has died

Postby UFGN » Sat Dec 24, 2016 6:30 pm

A sad loss for music

I was privileged to see Quo live three times and they rocked f***ing hard. Loudest band I've ever seen.

Their recorded stuff was always too sickly for me but live, Parfitt was a beast.

The man played guitar so hard he got carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive strain injury and was advised not to play "down stokes" on his guitar any more by his doctors.

RIP

Late reply but I'm really pleased you picked this one out. It's a great choice

After mainly producing psychedelic pop in their early years during the late 60s Quo figured it was time for a change of direction; it was their debut single for the label Vertigo and it set the template for Quo's sound in the years that followed. I thought it was befitting for the occasion, a bit of a hidden gem as well.

It definitely has hints of "Caroline" and "Down Down", which were yet to be recorded but followed soon afterwards, in 1973 and 74 respectively

A quick word about Quo's fans.... The atmosphere at their gigs was awesome. Like a football match. The singing from the crowd, and chanting between songs, was relentless. Brilliant stuff.

I rather like the psychedelic quo
I found a lot of there rock stuff a bit lumpy
However they were good at what they did
I brought piledriver when it came out and loved paper plane
I am probably being a bit of a music snob using hindsight for how there career went mor cartoon rockband
They have a huge fanbase and I went as pot house as everyone when they opened live aid.
God bless Rick parfitt
A rock roller to his very core

No I wasn't there but that gig has been hugely significant for me

At just six years old I was already a fan. My mum wouldn't let me stay up and listen to it on the radio but she recorded it for me. I just about wore that tape out over the years and have gone on to own Live at Wembley on almost every format.

At 36 I still love it. Music a life long obsession.

You're very lucky to have been there in person.

I went on the strength of live aid mate.
They were huge anyway mate
Danny baker was working at the nme and reckons if they did a straight poll for band of the year/album / single etc they would win it every year so the the paper in trying to keep up its cred would say it was won by the smiths/ cure etc.
I never owned a queen album apart from a best of so I wouldn't class myself as a fan but like many I was blown away by the sheer showmanship of freddy.
My uncle saw them support Mott the hoople at Hammersmith odeon in 74
He said they totally upstaged Mott who were on the way down.
Knebworth was huge
So much so that in pre mobile phone days I lost the people I went with
I proceded to lie down and slept right through quos set
I enjoyed queen but it was at Wembley where they were best
I was lucky to have an older guy to go to concerts with
Ended up seeing bands I wouldn't have chosen( some in support)
There are some good bands coming thru
Many of them tipping a nod to 70's glam
Check out the lemon twigs
I think I am going to see them at koko in Camden in march
They are only kids as well
