Do you really think it makes a difference whether or not that Knowles BA driver is in a Bose or a Beats?

If it comes to audio you buy custom, cheap from china or you get ripped off.

China has no relevance. Everything is made in China, so yes, it does make a difference knowing whether the company producing a certain product actually has any intelligence or reputation of manufacturing them.

You think a company like Audio Technica that has specialized in audio quality for decades would just use a generic formula that any rich rapper can just copy? There are always companies that actually take pride in creating quality products and not rely on brilliant marketing (Apple) to make their products seem better than they really are.

But for people who are used to listening to poorly compressed lossy audio files on their devices, then yeah headphones aren't going to make a difference.

If you want to fully utilize a headphones then you need to get the best quality out of its components as well (studio quality/audio hardware). But since most people are just casual listeners, they'll just want the easiest and cheapest headphones.

So a driver made by Knowles when inserted in Audio Technicas like the IM02 turns out to be better than when used in an unknown chinese company like Astrotec?

What I'm trying to say is.

You build your own pc because the internals matter not the manufacturer and offers better value. You buy a Oneplus because of the value and the internals. Why don't you do the same for audio?

Looking for a new pair of headphones for music, max budget of 100 pounds.

From my search I've found these: http://www.whathifi.com/akg/k550/review which seem pretty sweet. But am hoping for a more tech savvy member to weigh in

Thanks
