Can we have untitled no 1 from the soundtrack to Buddha of suburbia as today's track please
Named as a bit of a joke tipping a nod to how certain paintings are named
Bowie really liked this album
After the dross that was tonight and the dissapointment he had felt at the failure of never let me down
Maybe it was the lack of pressure on an obscure BBC soundtrack that allowed him to get back to doing interesting work?
He spent a week in the studio with multi instrumentalist erdal kizilcay and created some very good stuff
This track is full of beautiful blissfull melody
It's simple but effective as is the guitar solo played by Bowie himself
A lovely track to mark a year from his passing

:) sounds fantastic through a good pair of headphones.

Music doesn't get much more gentle and easier on the ears than this.

Thanks zenith
Can we have some are as today's track please
Staying on an ambient tip
This is an outtake from the low sessions
1st released on the cd reissue in 1991
Bowie liked it enough to include it on a cd that was given away with the Mail on Sunday in 2008 called I select
Similar to warszawa in its somber tone of atmospheric melancholy
But not quiet on as grand a scale
Maybe that's why it was left off
Bowie has remarked that it captures a mood of Germans trudging thru the snow in Russia during the Second World War mind you he also said it was about a man freezing outside crystal palace trying to find his match ticket. I think he was pretty swift to puncture himself if he thought he was disappearing up his own arse.
We are supposed to get a bit of snow in london
This seems apt

Can we have the performance of under pressure from the freddy Mercury tribute concert as today's track please
Performed by queen + Bowie& Annie Lennox
The whole 3 and half hour gig was shown live on BBC 2 on Easter Monday 22nd April 1992
In pre internet days the 72'000 tickets sold out in 6 hours which was quite phenomenal then
I know I am being a shocking old name dropper but f**k it
My mates brother Ray burdis produced this concert
Therefore I was lucky enough to be at the pre show soundcheck
No backstage access but access to great food
Ray also made the movie love honour and obey and one of its stars Perry benson ( he is the one who misfortune keeps striking) was keen on us going out for kfc.
Now Perry is a lovely bloke but hell or high water would not have removed me from Wembley stadium that day
The funny thing is I don't remember too much about bowies soundcheck
A few cold drinks had been taken.
I remember being impressed by elton ( I like his early stuff but the later stuff left me cold)
We watched from just in front of the stage before everyone was let in for the actual gig
We went up in the stands for that
A great day spent with mates
I think Annie was rather smitten with Mr jones
And a fine performance of this song
I think freddy would have approved
It was the 1st time he had ever performed it live however it became a staple of his live shows from the outside tour onwards 3 years later and Gail ann Dorsey probably is his greatest foil( other than freddy on this song)

Can we have his performance of young Americans from the dick cavett show dec 1974 as today's track please
Loaded on coke 3 months before the release of the album
He gives a rather rough vocal but for me this makes it all the more interesting
Featuring a then unknown Luther vandross on backing vocals it's a glorious technicolor snapshot of the mid 70's

Can we have right from the album young Americans as today's track please
Nearly a year ago nacho made his own promo for this,it was one of the 1st he ever did so being as how he never performed this song live and incredibly a year into the project we haven't had this song yet can you post nachos vid please.
He has used rehearsal and recording footage that was 1st seen in the BBC film cracked actor filmed at sigma studios in Philadelphia.
Bowie did himself a huge disservice when he called the album plastic soul because it was from this song onwards where he really found his soulful self.
On some of the songs he had used his usual tropes but here with the help of some fantastic backing vocalists he dived right out of his comfort zone and I believe it was a huge turning point in his career
This may well be the funkiest song he ever made?
I think it's my favourite track on the album
The fact that Bowie was off his nut yet still managed to arrange these most complex of vocal call and responses is incredible
Allied with a fine groove from Carlos alomar and sublime blissful sax from David sanborn
The original demo was called never no turning back.
Brilliant

I's certainly the funkiest Bowie song I've heard along with Fame, which we played in November.

Some soul elements in there as well with the sax and Vandross & co's background vocals.

Very befitting for a weekend eve.

Can we have his 2002 performance of rebel rebel from the later with jools Holland show broadcast on the 22nd october
A slight reworking and the song sung as celebration
Not his most groundbreaking performance but he looks like he is really enjoying himself singing it

Can we have do they know it's Christmas as today's track please
From the finale to the live aid concert 13th July 1985
The opening line was written for Bowie to sing but he couldn't do it so paul young ended up singing it on the band aid single.
This was put right at the gig.
But only to a fashion
I was there
At the time it was fantastic
It sounds pretty ropey now
Tickets were 25 pound
I went because of Bowie but the whole day was fantastic
It may not really stand up to inspection all these years down the line but at the time it was really good
You tube seems to be blocked mate but daily motion has it
