One of Bowie's best songs to be added to a reissue after initially being omitted, starman?

Hello zenith
I think we covered this when we was doing the odyssey
A ziggy outtake that was on the cd release in 1990
A real rocker but the lyrics regarding oral sex was probably considered a bit too strong
There are a few tracks that have found there way out since we finished
Probably be asking your help soon if that’s ok

Ha, you're right! Thanks for the reminder.

That was a great find( that Kurt cobain in the t-shirt)
Can we have sweet head as today's track please
When I brought the cd release of ziggy stardust in 1990 it was a total surprise to find this outtake on it
I was unaware it existed( then again even producer ken Scott had forgotten it) I was buying a lot of bootlegs at the time and it never turned up on any of them
How about this for a day in the studio
11th nov 1971
He recorded final takes of ziggy stardust, star, velvet goldmine and sweet head
A nasty song that contains racism violent references to the just released clockwork orange and also oral sex
When I say nasty I mean in tone rather than my opinion
If you can take away the lyrical content you have an absolute scorching rocker that the album could have been built around
The fact that it was dropped for it ain't easy( an ok but serviceable cover is a bit of a shame)
I think rca leaned on a bit and bowie didn't love the song enough to fight its corner.

Fully agree on the second to last line. Perhaps, at the time, RCA felt its lyrics would be too controversial or potentially create a bit of a schism? (Complete speculation from my end of, course.)

Of course, starman. Can't wait to have a listen. :)

I had a pretty cool Lou Reed experience back in about 1972 or 73. He played the Rainbow , had the blonde hair and was recording Rock n Roll Animal on that tour. Walk On the Wild Side was all over the BBC until they actually understood the lyrics. I had a class in school where we did silk screening. So I made a very good copy of his head from Transformer. The teacher was a pre punk punk and just went crazy over it, loving the shit out of it. He and I tried a Bowie Aladin Sane face but that turned out terrible.

Can imagine why creating the Aladdin Sane cover proved tricky. Do you still have your copy of Transformer?

Chris Hadfield discusses his cover of Space Oddity performed on the ISS, his conversations with Bowie, and his reflections on Bowie's death. First three minutes of the video.

Chris is an amazing man. I've read his autobiography and it's one of the best books I've ever read.

Working in my shop the past few days I have put on Bowie covers on YouTube. This is one that was pretty cool. One other I really enjoy is Beck Sound and Vision.

I have to wonder about him taking his guitar into space...and then how did his station mates deal with him playing in confined quarters! I bet they had to listen him rehearse the same song day after day... :frogwink:

Some covers get butchered by idiots trying to out-Ziggy Ziggy, but mostly I like listening to all the different arrangements. His music stands up in any context and any genre. I really some of the hip hop takes as well as classical.

I went to see this on Friday at the imax
If you’re expecting a linear story or only have a passing interest I would say this is not for you( I think you will love it zenith)
It’s a bit like the jackdaw that is Bowie leaping from era to era
I think he would have approved
The concert footage is electric
I saw him many times but I don’t think it was ever as good as this film portrays
There are moments where I wanted to applaud at the end of songs
Such was the gig experience captured
I could have done with less swanning around Asia and the 76 thin white duke tour could have been better represented
But because of how it’s been presented there is no reason why further authorised movies couldn’t be made
I loved it warts n all
