Thanks zenith
Yes it only came out a few months ago on the anniversary of his death
I'm hoping they are holding back some stuff to release on those type of occasions
It's great to see tin machine playing like that rather than the crank it up to 11 they usually do
Can we have black tie white noise from the tonight with jay Leno show broadcast 10 th may 1993 as today's track please
Just for a little time perspective
It was just the night before we fielded a weakened side before the fa cup final losing 3-1 home to Spurs
And looking back I went to see indecent proposal with my recently married wife on this night
What a strangely dated concept it seems now
Selling your wife like chattel( not that I would have done it then, despite now being divorced. :BangHead: )
The recently married Bowie ( I didn't copy him honest guv) made this album whilst not being a complete return to form he was on the right road
Only thru doing this have I come across these 90's American TV appearances and this is another cracker
He looks pretty damn fine in that suit as well

Bowie's suit stands out a lot in contrast to the pink late '70s disco-looking studio and the background singers looking more like it was 1983 rather than 1993. Also funny how Leno looked roughly 10 years older than Bowie despite actually being 3 years younger.

Hope you don't mind but I have reposted something I posted back in September
starmandb wrote:You posted the audio of the version from the concert for New York maybe you were struggling to find the footage where you are?
But I think these are examples of really having to see him to appreciate the magnificence of the performances
Keeping with the Bowie in a suit thing as well
Wearing a 1930's Burberry tweed suit he performed this at the Robin Hood foundation auction for New York schools that raised 14 million
May 30 th 2002 at the janits center Manhattan
Can we have america as today's track please
His cover of the simon and garfunkle song
Bowie was in upstate New York but iman was in their apartment and saw the second plane hit the twin towers
A show was arranged at madison square garden as a tribute in oct 2001
Bowie opened the show and set the tone with a stunning performance of the song
Paul simon had written part of the song while in england receiving it's 1st release in 1968
It's tale of displacement chimed with the mood in New York according to bowie after the tragedy
Bewilderment and uncertainty was evoked( I was driving my taxi in london that day and it was a staggering, shocking turn of events) bowies performance could have been mawkish but on an unfamiliar instrument and even after slightly messing up the opening verse he pulls off a charming touching performance.
The following may he performed the song again at a Robin Hood benefit in New York
Musically this is probably a sharper performance but it's the 1st performance that soars to great heights
Both are well worth a post if possible mate also if you can find the footage of him actually performing the song at the concert for New York rather than just the audio
It begins with visuals of New York old and new before focusing on bowie like he is back at the beckenham arts lab
It really adds to the poignancy
Both versions worth a look
Once again the power of music hits
Tears streaming down my face

Could't resist giving the original video of what is a rather touching performance a quick visual revamp.

Thanks zenith
Can we have ( she can) do that as today's track please
The last song he recorded before the long hiatus prior to the next day
Thank god he went back into the recording studio because this would have been a poor ending to his recording career.
Made for the soundtrack of the top gun rip off that starred Jamie fox, stealth
He wrote the top line melody and lyrics
The rest was the work of trance artist bt
It comes over as a low rent talking heads pastich
That's up there with his late 80's aberrations
However
There is a demo of the song featuring kristeen young( who had done a bit of backing on heathen) mirroring him but singing an octave higher that is much better
It has a bit of art of noise about it
It's still not up to the standard of his greatest work but an interesting part of the story
But still
Thank god for the next day and blackstar

Just came across this, starman - thought maybe you hadn't seen the footage before.

Placebo wrote:To mark the release of 'Without You I’m Nothing’ as a 12” picture disc for Record Store Day this coming Saturday, here is a video we’ve compiled from our personal archives which includes never before seen clips of PLACEBO with the late, great David Bowie.

A fine performance.

f**k me mate that went right over my head
Go nacho indeed
Right 6 weeks ago you posted life on Mars from fashion rocks 2005 instead of changes
We said we would return to it at a later date
That's now please mate
The last time he played life on Mars as today's track please
Even this was an affectation
Coming on with a black eye and his hand bandaged
The poor sod looked like his trousers had had a row with his ankles
But God did he nail it
Beautiful, touching
God love him
