Looks like something has gone seriously wrong in the lead up to the incident. Not sure how you would be able to reach a weapon and fire it accurately with your hands handcuffed behind your back.

How does a person being detained in a facility have a firearm? Did he keister it?

The Met confirmed he was handcuffed with his hands behind his back and had been taken to the custody centre in a police vehicle, before being escorted into the building.

The shots were fired as officers prepared to search the suspect, who was still handcuffed, with a metal detector, the IOPC said.

Quite the difference in justified outrage between US and UK cop shootings sadly. Thankfully they are so rare in the UK.

RIP

There is a Maori PA and settlement named Ratana between Palmerston NTh and Whanganui, it is also a religion The Ratana church and religion was founded there. Great place

By all accounts he was a great bloke and very popular among his friends and colleagues.

Over 30 years as a serving Police officer. Such a shame.

What area was he from VCC? The article I just read says Hawkes Bay / Napier and I’ve got relatives on my mothers side, her sister who lived there for years until recently moving a bit further west.

Small world that you knew of him. Real shame.

That was horrendous. The shooter must have bided his time until he was in the nick and they had his cuffs off. Hindsight and all that but why tf wasnt he searched before then?

Cowardly act in any case. "Big man" who likes to carry a gun but cant face jail time when hes caught with it.

I don't think the name and shame stuff works with someone who obviously has a screw loose / death wish.

There is zero benefit for anyone who's sane to shoot a cop when your already nicked in cuffs and in the police station, no escape and you just went from possession to murder.

That's a 10-15 year difference in jail time ffs.

Guys obviously fked in the head.
