There's nothing they can do. The roof is gone, the spire is gone, the inside will be gutted, all the windows will be gone

They are so loved by so many people but they are vulnerable

I hope this will serve as a wake up call to managers looking after other historic buildings.

Its very sad and frustrating

However by all accounts it was in a terrible state so the restoration was essential otherwise the place would have been a wreck anyway

A lot of French history has been destroyed in there. It survived Robespierre, Napoleon and Hitler yet has been brought down by potentially some careless builder. A black day for all humanity.
