Ive never known it to make a pc freeze. :?

Depends really. If there is far too much going through, it just won't have it, so freezes, but in time (which could be a minute or 24 hours) it will eventually run through.

On ME, the system will freeze until the plug is pulled out, because it's not a very stable version of Windows, in fact 98 was probably better! On XP, you would be best with at least 512mb RAM, preferably 1024mb. Anything up of that, there really should be no problems, but even at 1gb (1024mb) there really shouldn't be anything other than something sinister slowing the system enough to freeze.

hmmm didnt know that about Millenium Edition, (i hated it & soon went back to 98!) with XP it doesnt usually freeze, the machine would either blue-screen or reset itself. oh well they say u learn something new every day! ;)
We had a very similar prob, with us it was the CPU, bloody thing took the motherboard out with it when it blew! obviously though it could be a multitude of sins that can cause it to freeze, not much goes wrong with this beast of ours, (280gb HD, 2gb RAM, thats Darren & his gaming for you!) but 9/10 its the hardware, in which case being a pain in the arse to check everything individually, automatic updates on XP can cause this sort of prob too. (im sure its xp home edition that glitch is with though)

Anyway, glad your working ok now Trina...fingers ccrossed! ;)
Was it the fist or the boot?

Sometimes just cleaning the fan seems to speed things up, be careful though.

And with it goes everything that was stored on it....

However, you can get a new one fitted for about £30, depending on the make. Just avoid the "well known" computer places!

Meaning you are up and running again.......

Why didn't you just get the HDD replaced?

Was it the CPU that took the motherboard out by any chance?

------------------

Tip: Go to BIGPOCKETS!!!

We just bought Jakes pc from there, although we didnt bother getting a windows working system as we already got it, plus you can pick it up for alot cheaper elsewhere if needed.
we paid ...£202 with a basic keyboard & mouse... delivery took 3 days.
they sent us the wrong machine though, far better than the one we had originally ordered! hehehehehe

AMD sempron 64x2 dual core cpu
1gb RAM
400GB HD!!!!
Nvidia on board gfx

They also sell LCD mointors starting from £49.99 inc vat. (we hoping the 18" will be in stock soon!) Not bad eh? under £300 for a beast of a machine! :005:

I always buy from Dell.

This current system was about £300, which included a 19" flat screen monitor, Pentium D CPU 2.66ghz, 250gb HDD and 2mb RAM. Plus I got a sound system with it and new keyboard.

The drawback is the delivery time. It took about four weeks from ordering to get here.
