Really?

Why don't you just do it then, not that hard with a bit of dedication.

It's quite difficult here in the states.

Very competitive and a rigorous hiring process.

There are people who make it to the firefighter oral exam multiple times and never get past that stage, they really scrutinize you.

I know a volunteer firefighter who has been trying to become a full fledged member for 8 years now.

I will at least try to become a volunteer, even a handful of shifts a month would be amazing.

Well yeah, not too dissimilar here tbf.

Long waiting lists.

Only so many Firefighters needed I guess, got to go into fields that have demand, I'm a Sales broker in the finance industry............ always jobs going for good brokers because a good broker = £££

Business owners don't turn down £££ as we all know.

If it was not for volunteer in NZ the place would burn down.
I pulled out when we moved and renovated which took a year, when I went to new brigade about 2km up the road because I had been a year out I had to re-enlist do the medical again so I said f**k that.
I have helped out on two occasions one a road death i happened upon and another accident where a d***head hit a power pole pissed about 500m from the fire station whilst i was trying to go to work road was closed they know me and were short staffed it was new year morning about 4am
