The cuts in legal aid are so ridiculous. The amount of money saved is very small in the grand scheme of things. And it means defendents in criminal cases, and in family cases, going unprotected against the full force of the state.

It's f***ing chilling imo.

Read "The Secret Barrister". A real eye opener

The dentist one is nuts too. I know people who are afraid to go to the dentist cos they are worried about the potential bill. I know people driving 45 minutes to get to a dentist too!

Well here's the funniest thing

I got a call from my mum today. She's very pleased because she's managed to get herself an appointment..... at the dentist where she used to live two years ago, 170 miles from her current home

She can't get a single appointment in the same f***ing county she lives in, for six months.

She's timing a visit to a stay with a friend to make it viable.

I just don't know what to say about that

Another question. Remember when you had a GP who you saw every time, who knew the family and your medical history etc?

When was the last time you booked doctors appointments and saw the same doctor twice in a row?

Actually when was the last time you saw a doctor. First you have to get through to reception, then a nurse calls you back, then you get told to call 101 and then you might be allowed to speak to a doctor over the phone to see if he/she needs to see you!

I've been fobbed off with a nurse, paramedic, visit to out of hours doctor and finally got shirty when they tried fobbing me off with the paramedic again. It's madness!

Yes this has become standard. You get treated like a muppet by an over worked receptionist then told there’s no appointments left and try to book online first thing in the morning

A few months ago I needed to speak to a GP at my surgery because a referral they made for me had been ballsed up by the hospital. I had to fill in a six page online questionnaire all about why I needed to speak to the doctor. Like writing a fkin business plan

Youre right about having a steady GP as well. It makes so much sense. When I was a kid we had a lovely old guy. A tough talking black South African guy who wouldn’t think twice about telling you you’d put on weight and to do something about it!!! I think people need that. Now I don’t even know any of their names

Yup thanks, swinging brick ok, I had a quadruple bypass about 4 years ago and just need yearly checkups, glad I am in Turkey otherwise I would be dead with the system in the UK. My GP sent me to the hospital one day to see a heart specalist as she said something was not quite right anyway, he does tests and told me I needed heart surgery. That was on Tuesday, I said OK will you do it he said yes I said when he said when do you want it done needs to be sooner than later. I said as soon as I can. On Thursday I was admitted and surgery is done on Saturday, two weeks later I was home all done.

Such treatment is rare here

It seems you have to fight and hustle to get what you need.

My uncle got excellent cutting edge cancer care, I can't fault them for that. But that was nearly 10 years ago now and I wonder if things would turn out the same now? I somehow doubt it.

Glad that worked out for you Nuggets. I decided, what with all the adverse news on NHS lead times, (especially on cancer treatment) to take out private health cover in 2020 for me and the wife. Glad I did because I started getting something called Atrial Fibrillation, which is when rogue elec signals in the heart, cause it to go out of rhythm. It seems to be quite common, but for me it meant no exercise etc and the NHS waiting lists for the treatment are forever. So am going through the process currently in what will hopefully be a couple of months for two procedures, that would cost £20k if I had to pay for it.

Tony Blair had a similar condition to that while running the whole country and he was fine so quit your whining ;)
