The wife bought her layer chickens for the year. June the meat birds show up. Two cows in the pasture, three pigs on the way. Wild turkeys across the creek, one of which met a load of #2 shot yesterday. In the pot on the wood stove. Third blizzard in a week heading in tonight. Three feet of snow above 5000ft, about a foot down here at 3500 ft. Just coming out of a severe drought so any rain or snow is a blessing. Garden is going in next week.
The wild geese hatched out their goslings today. Three pairs and a bout 50 fluffy little shit machines running around the yard and creek. Love spring in Montana.

You can use it for any low voltage devices. Outside lights for instance. You could power a lot if outside lights with that.

We are seriously looking a solar system now that battery storage with lithium becoming more affordable. Plus we have massive amounts of sunshine. Not so much for the house but for an electric UTV.

Have plans to build a "passive heat battery" greenhouse later this summer by which the southern exposure is glazed, the rest insulated and the hot air in summer pumped into the substrate four feet below grade where it is stored for winter use. Our university systems here have programs to help design and advise on small scale agriculture so the research is done. A guy in western MT and many folks in Canada have one operating and produce bananas, citrus along with year round greens, tomatoes and berries. The wife wants to grow avacados and kiwi...that might be a stretch!

The greenhouse is progressing, but weather is delaying things. From a severe drought last winter to nonstop thunderstorms each afternoon. Saw my first Montana funnel cloud today.

We have been working with a guy from Minnesota to design the greenhouse from the engineering standpoint. The idea is to store hot air in stone beds five feet below grade and pump it out in the winter months. Minimal electric required to run duct fans but is designed to keep it all above 10 c year round with no heating. We get down to -40 at times so that would be incredible. I am also building solar water panels that would supplement the air system. Fun stuff.
