I have the honors of putting the Anzac crosses out for our local township, we currently have a population of around 500, WW1 that population would have been much smaller,in such a small population we have 29 crosses within those 29 there are 6 Victoria Crosses which absolutely amazes me. I Love the chance to honor these people by placing the crosses for remembrance.

How the hell did they get six victoria crosses? Do you realise how high the threshold is for one of those? Do you have a link to their citations? It must have been for something they did as a group presumably.

I have read up on four of them at this stage two of them got the French medal of honor as well, most be not overstated all of these men also perished in WW1 2 of the awards were posthumous, one I remember most was single handedly took out a machine gun post it's command and personal, that was the one that stuck out the most. Two or three of them had 4 honors vc French I will post details when I take them down. What I couldn't work out was two of these guys were in the Christchurch battalion which is the other end of the country, don't know too much about WW1 contingency as to what battalion there were, but I intend to find out, remarkable number of VC,I met NZ last VC Willie Apiata I built his Toyota ute for him with Toyota and the company I managed at the time.
These are the 3 I can find that I had written down
RC Travis
DF Brown
HJ Nicholas

Its incredible what people are capable of. Often not even professional soldiers but conscripts. We have a VC in my area and he has a statue. So much more earned than some of the political elites who get one essentially for having plopped out of a rich fanny

I'll read up on those

The three posted are all from down south island must have family local to us now so the remembrance crosses are here, the others I will follow up on. The post was edited a ways back to other awarded medals and what battalion they were in

Today I learned that eating too many cashew nuts in one sitting gives you the raging shits.

Did do about 200g in one go though. Unsalted of course. Asking for trouble

They shouldn't be so damned morish

Anyone know if this place is any good? Meeting mates in London, want somewhere cheap.

Alternatively if anyone can recommend somewhere similar (ie cheap) near St Paul's Cathedral that'd be good.

I want to bestow some wisdom on the forum

Don't waste your time cleaning a kettle if you live in a hard water area (London)

Just buy a new kettle every year or two. Have some respect for your own time. They're not expensive FFS

Not been here much lately, was persuade to take a new role, I have gone from being semi retired working 4 days a week in a zero stress job, to back managing assets reporting on process and plant and managing the asset tree basicly finding funding for dying assets as the come to the end of their lifespan,FFS I are a fucken sucker for punishment is all I will say,I now pretty much are married to my phone strapped to a lap top and work like a slave. I'll give it 6 months get it over the hurdle they are in and pass it on to someone who will be able to have some breathing space, and time in the role to keep on top of the aspects that have been neglected for years.
5 months two weeks to semi retirement to go.

I have retired now, but I still miss some of my work colleagues, don't miss the stress now though. Living my time out in Turkey could be a lot worse. ;)

I have a busy schedule, which includes walking, swimming, and meeting some friends I have made out here. I go to the Beach once a week, and in the winter, I go to the thermal baths. Gardening and just general potting about. When I don't go on trips around Turkey.
