Fabianski reborn?

Fabianski reborn?

Postby GunnGunn » Sun Oct 24, 2010 5:06 pm

I have been putting off this thread for a while, but after today, i have to start a proper discussion...

I always maintained that Fabianski had the ability, but not the mentality, whether it was was the defeat at Chelsea years ago or not, something twigged in him and he became a liability.

From that moment on we feared for our lives when he was in goal, countless flaps, errors ensued and for the majority of Gooners, he was a complete disgrace...

Then, one game, away to tough opposition, an injury to Almunia..."FFS we all groaned"...

A penalty conceded, and a good one...bang, another penalty and the best penalty save you are likely to see, then boom a point blank shot...

"Good penalty save but i could have saved that" shouted Leody..."He will never do enough to change my opinion" :sneaky:

Here we are, after probably the most magnificent performance of his Arsenal career against top quality opposition and you have to wonder if Almunia is ever going to get his place back...

I hope not.

This is not Fabianski in goal, this is Buffon wearing a Fabianski suit.

I do jump the gun a lot but this bloke is turning out to be f***ing mega quality.

Another AW master stroke? Or did he have it always and just needed a kick up the arse in the form of one good save to bring it to the surface?

Both. AW pulled off a master stroke by both signing him and keeping faith in him, but at the same time he did have the talent the whole time, just needed something to click back into place, and it did. Szczesny's been saying how goalkeepers need a run in the team to impose themselves - looks like he's spot on.

I allways had fully faith in fabianski. I think the huge lack of confidence he had, made him look 20x worser then he actually is.

If he can keep improving his confidence, and work on his communication with the defenders, Then I think he will become a very good goalkeeper.

Absolutely awesome today, that Chelscum game was clearly a major turning point for him.
His sudden 'switching on' of form reminds me of Songs a couple of seasons ago. Let's hope the results are the same.

You will see my thoughts on this tomorrow in my first GW blog. I've been planning to write on this topic since last Wed, wanted to wait till after this match before I started anything though. You'll get my opinion tomorrow.

He was absolutley sensational today... kept us in it with some of his saved but becuase of his previous goalkeeping mistakes, he still dosnt fill me with 100% confidence in goal.
Lets not forget he had a 'semi-flap' today when challenging Adebayor.

Still, its great to see the lad having a good run of form and hopefully he can be the key to us challenging for the title this year :D

Let's be honest though, the Flappy of last year would have stood on his line and let Adebayor have a wide open header. I forget what thread I said it in, but I'll always forgive a keeper for being to aggressive and not quite getting there. And in that case I really think he did enough to put Adebayor off. You know he thought he was getting a fist to the face as he went for that ball, and I really wish Flappy would have connected with his face.

But seriously, it was nice to see him come storming off his line for that ball.

Always knew he could do it, never lost faith! :hiding:

In all seriousness, my argument used to be "give him time, he only f**ks up in the big games"... but I gave up on that and jumped on the bandwagon a LONG time ago.

More games like today and he'll believe he's unbeatable, like every keeper should! That will do wonders for our defense... or it might give them the confidence to hang around in the opponents box looking to add their goal tally "no worries, Fabi's got it covered, I'll stay here and try to get my third!"
