Arsenal midfielder Denilson demands move after 'worst season' of his career

Denilson yesterday said he wanted to leave Arsenal after the 'worst season' of his career.

The midfielder, 23, who is flying home to Brazil after Sunday's match with Fulham, blamed his frustration on the club's six-year trophy drought, saying: 'I am so upset. I am a winner and I came here to win trophies but I've been here for five years and won nothing.

'A footballer's career is over very quickly so it is time for me to move on. This has been the worst season of my life.

'I made up my mind eight months ago. But I haven't said anything because I did not want to disrupt the team during the season.

'I've been to see Arsene Wenger and told him how I felt and he agreed to let me go. I know some people will think I'm crazy. They are right. It is a great club, with a great organisation, a great manager and so many talented players. I need a fresh challenge and although I'm taking a big gamble, I'm ready to take that risk.'

Wenger has vowed to fight to keep Cesc Fabregas after new stories in the Spanish press linked him to Barcelona.

"Blamed his frustration on the 6 year trophy drought"?

Eh? Not like you feckin' contributed with your inability to pass the ball forward...

I do like Denilson, but he isn't cut out for the Prem in his current state, in Spain or Italy he would be a beast, but right now he is dead wood.

The bloody cheek. Glad to hear he's going, now just for the other one to piss off too

Need to put in a sell-on clause when we flog him to some mid table La Liga side

Ungrateful bastard.

Well of all the people I expected to be upset about a lack of trophies I didn't expect it to be him.

Even if we'd won the league this season he probably wouldn't have played enough games to get a medal!
I suspect this has more to do with the emergence of Jack than anything else.

This is true by the way, the Sun are running another exclusive alongside this one and there are far too many direct quotes for it to made up IMO.

You have to wonder though, if a player like Denilson wants to move because of the lack of trophies, what the hell do our other players think? I.e. The ones who actually play...

It was a press interview so yeah its obv true. He said more than what the mail reported too reading other sites

He's got a real nerve to come out with some of this now, since he didn't play much this season it's practically a veiled criticism of all the other players and even though he may be talking sense he's in no position to as he is the worst offender. Please tell me how Denilson is a "winner".....

piss off then you ungrateful t**t, don't let the door hit you on the way out
5 years without a trophy? And what exactly has he contributed to us winning a trophy? There are a thousand other plays just like him that we could have got, he should thank his lucky stars that we picked him
a lower middle table club in Spain or Italy is the absolute best he can hope for

I read the full interview and it didn't sound as ungreatful, just honest really. I think he just knows he can't get in the team anymore.

Denilson out, Lansbury in. One fringe player for another fringe player that's showing twice the potential. No problem.

I remember years back people thinking that Denilson would be Cesc's successor  Personally I think this is another one for the "positives of the 2010/11 campaign". This should top the bloody list!!!

That's the truth of it.

When he was first involved in the CC team he was alot more hungry, and certainly more attacking considering he came to us a defensive midfielder. He should promise and then fizzled out.
