Wenger mystified by Denilson injury

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted the injury sustained by midfielder Denilson against Everton was "mysterious".

The Brazilian, who had only just returned from a back problem, slumped to the ground unchallenged during the closing stages of Saturday`s 2-2 draw and left the field on a stretcher.

Wenger said: "It is a little bit mysterious at the moment. It could be an intercostal (muscle) problem. I've just seen him in the dressing room and he can walk quite normally. We have to see if it is a broken rib, if it is a deeper problem with his lungs."

I heard it was connected to his previous back injury. Somewhere between the back and rib cage.

Intercostal muscle or summats like that, I think.

That isn't good at all that such a young man in Denilson has back problems. I hope this doesn't spoil his career in any shape or form, I probably wouldn't of said that last year though. I thought Denilson was terrible but he has improved the the CM role this season rather than the DM role as he struggles dearly with his physical attributes. I hope it isn't too serious, we are really short on experienced midfielders.

Maybe this will persuade Wenger to buy a DM

So long as he doesn't reside in Serbia and play with horsesh*t, I'm cool with that.

It's probably one of the core muscles being pulled like he said. If he's still feeling the effects of the back injury, that weakness in his back will make his body overcompensate when using the core muscles.

Still, I honestly think there's something wrong with our conditioning training regime because it's happening too often to be coincidence.

Who else has thought about putting Coquelin/Eastmond/Frimpong or maybe even JET at DM while Denilson and Song or out, or are most people thinking of Ramsey or Diaby?

Eastmond although he gave a promising account against Citeh was simply too weak.
Cock-well-in is untried
Frimpong- please refer to Cock-well-in assumption. Although I reckon in time he could well play there.

I'd rather see Diaby play there with Cesc and either Rambo/Rosicky alongside.

No time for experimenting with youngsters.

Against Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea? I don't think so.

I have, many times.

I still believe that in some ways playing an untested young player who was born to defend is still better than a more experienced young(ish) player who's first instinct is to attack.
Coquelin is like Flamini-lite imo and it would be worth giving him a shot over someone like Diaby who is clearly much taller and stronger but like a magnet is drawn towards the opposition's penalty area.

JET is on the fringes of the first team anyway and Frimpong is physically very strong. Eastmond is coming along nicely but his performance against Liverpool was ten times better than his performance against Man City so perhaps Frimpong would be better.
