Arsenal refuse Vela permission to play for Mexico in CA

Postby gzagee » Sun May 29, 2011 8:10 pm

Read on another forum that Arsenal have refused to give Mexico permission for them to include Carlos Vela in their Copa America squad. He was included in the preliminary squad but, Arsenal have said they want him here for pre-season.

Dunno whether that means Wenger wants to make him available for first team squad next season or, they don't want to risk losing him to injury in South America therefore decreasing their chances of selling him? Although putting him in the shop window would surely increase the number of potential offers for him?

I think Wenger wants to decide on Vela, that's why he'll be here for pre-season as its sink or swim time for him.

If the reason is to stop him getting injured before we sell him the Vela should tell us to go jump off a cliff as the Copa America is a big deal.

Agree with Jordan.

Vela going to Mexico and back has really affected his thus far stop start career with us, wouldn't surprise me if AW was prepared to drop him right in the shit.

If he swims, great, if he sinks, no big loss.

But if he gives him a chance rather than making a signing and he sinks then it would be a big loss, especially if we let super nik go!

It is incredibly selfish of us to demand this of him.

When I first read the title I couldn't see any logic in it. He's form has dropped due to lack of game time and he looks less likely than ever to have any sort of a future with us. I thought Wenger would relish the opportunity to give Vela some game time... any game time at all!!!

But I'm encouraged by Wenger possibly only stopping him from going so he can play him. Something tells me he's going back to a two-striker formation, despite almost everyone elses view on where Vela plays best, Wenger has only compared him to Eduardo and described him as a "fox-in-the-box" type player.

Either way, it's really taking the piss stopping him from playing CA.

Taking the piss?

Whats taking the piss is Vela f***ing off every month to Mexico and coming back shattered, its been said numerous times that its hindered his progress at the club.

Either AW wants him here, to give him one last shot to prove himself or he is putting him in the shop window.

Either way, WE pay his wages, he is OUR player, we can do what we like, its about time the club put its foot down IMO, how many players have we lost to these shitty tournaments over the years?

Gilberto lost his place in the side because of this tournament and ended up being kicked out of the club.

Anyway, as of now this is just cross forum natter, nothing has been confirmed.

Exactly, what can of player can he be if he doesnt sort out his fitness or diet or something. is there are 5 international games during the season each taking one week up and he needs another week to recover then thats another 5 weeks where he cant play, thats no good to a team that plays sat wed sat wed.

He wouldnt have a proper pre-season and seeming he needs extra time to get ready then he prob wouldnt be available till september, potentially being unavailable for 4/5 matches.

Not being available and fighting for a place on the bench are two different things.

Try to rationalize it however you'd like, but this is very selfish of us. We knew what we were getting when we signed him. We knew he was a Mexican national tram player, we knew he was going to continue playing there and we should have known the difficulty with that after other players we've had from the Americas.

And now we're telling him that he can't play for his country after we loaned him out all year, after the great start he had with us last year. If I were Carlos, Wenger would have a transfer request on his desk.
This space used to be more fun...

True Leody but these are the same people who dont want RVP to go on international duty because he comes back crocked, cant have it both ways.
