Vela - 21 - 33 apps.
Chico - 22 - 20 apps.

Would suggest otherwise.

Really?
Even when you consider Vela made his international debut in 2007 whilst Chacarito made his in 2009? An interesting suggestion is that...

Vela only played twice in 2007, compared to 12 in 2010.

Hmm, still I don't think he's on the team sheet ahead of Chacarito.
And I can't be arsed to find stats to compare but i'd guess it's better than Vela's.

I lied. I took the time to find out (you knew I would ;) ). Hernandez played in 16 int'ls in 2010. And if my maths is right he scored 9 goals.

He has scored 11 in 20, Vela has scored 9 in 33 from the wing and has about 10 assists as well.

Err...Yes, he plays on the wing in a front 3...As i said last page.

Not quite sure what you are trying to get at here to be honest, first he isn't good enough, now we seem to be comparing some Manc who actually plays up front to a player who has played 99% of his games on the wing.

So yes, i would say he was a winger, and yes, he is the first name on the team sheet, he brings a lot more to the setup than just goals, Vela is practically worshipped in Mexico, he has captained the National team at youth and this level...

Shame he got banned for 6 months for partying with a bunch of hookers though.

But he's not a winger. He's a striker who's been played on the wing. So, with all his striking instincts i've been pretty unimpressed by him when he's had his chances. And he's squandered some chances.

And to remind you; I made a flippant comment about Chacarito being ahead of Vela on the Mexico team sheet. You decided to respond and engage me on that comparison.

Great. Woohoo. He's a demi-god in Mexico.
Not worth a dickie-bird here.

I was referring to why he is the first name on the team sheet.

And yes, he is a winger, who is being converted to a striker by AW because he believes he has great finishing ability ala Eduardo.

Gunn, I'm surprised you haven't noticed he began life as a forward, was given the golden boot at FIFA U17 2005, was signed by Guadalajara as a forward and only when signed by Wenger was he shoved on to the wing.
He is a striker being played out wide.
Which is what AW does.

He played on the wing at Guadalajara despite being signed as a forward.

He played on the wing at Salamanca, played on the wing at Osasuna, plays on the wing for Mexico and surprise surprise, plays on the wing for us.

I don't care what AW wants to do with him, he is more of a winger than he is a striker, most of his attributes compliment his wing play as well.

Ergo, more of a winger than a striker.

FYI i think of Walcott as a winger as well, regardless of what AW says.

He's a striker who's been made to play on the wing. Every pro-Vela contributor gushes about his predatory instincts in front of goal.
I read more about the goals he's scored than the chances he's created. I've never heard anyone talk about his silky skills, his ability to take on 2 defenders, or his pin-point crossing.

Winger? My back foot. If he's a winger then he's even more useless than he is a striker.
