He already said there's no way he would come back.

We need somebody who is a genuinely top quality and Vela is not even remotely close to that. Not having a top quality striker has already cost us quiet a few points this season.

can anyone tell me how long he had to run on his contract?

i think that has more to do with his leaving than anything, just as we will find with all the other deadwood we are stuck with them on their high wage until the contract is up

Speaking about a potential reunion, Vela optimistically said, “I don’t rule it out,”

“They have a clause to buy me back – you put that in the contract for a reason. I don’t know if anything will happen, it is out of my hands, but I know Arsenal have come to see my games.”

The only other quotes I've seen are of him saying that he's happy that he's trusted and given freedom at his club, but no rulling out of anything.

He smashed it in the CC one season, made a couple of good sub apps the next, got injured, came back and then got shunned out to LW

Would definitely take him back, but it would almost certainly stop us buying another striker and I don't think Vela's ready for the starting spot.

I always liked Vela and he was one of the only real talented young players we bought all those years ago, but he's not coming back. Wenger never fancied him nor trusted him to even play a bit part role and he's much more suited to Spain. La Liga is full of comedy defences he can exploit, the climate is better and he doesn't have to bother with English.

I might be wrong then but Im sure I've read it somewhere he said he doesn't want to come back, think it was a Marca interview.

Yea I tried searching for some articles, but all the ones with the headlines of "Vela suggests future remains in Spain" or "Vela snubs Arsenal" didn't have any quotes, they were just going off his "I'm happy to be here" quotes. Maybe it was the headlines you were thinking of???

Don't think he really suited our formation, would have been better paired with another striker

Wasn't the case when Vela was actually playing for us though.
