Is cazorla really that big a signing? I'm not convinced he's someone RVP will look at and think 'wow, i've always wanted to play alongside him' in the way he might with aguero/silva, rooney/giggs, messi/villa etc.

If i'm trying to think about why he'd want to leave it'd be to play with other top players and i don't think cazorla is anywhere near that standard!

he's pretty bloody good... but I think RVP's mind was made up regardless of if we brought in a Silva/Giggs/Villa

If his standards are that high (and they might be) then there's only one place he can go and that's City.
He'll play with Aguero, Silva, Toure and all the other stars.
Whether he'd actually start every game is debatable though. He can't go to Barca because I don't think they want him. If they did they'd have made the DNA remark by now and forced a shirt over his head at the Euros.

Or he could go to Paris St-Germain who are rivalling City in spending and once their stars gel, could become France's version of the Invincibles....

I don't see their stars gelling to that point though.

I think Wenger has made a body serve on to RVP. He has made it difficult for RVP to substantiate his decision to move. Nothing wrong in moving for money. Nothing in wrong in not admitting that he is moving for money. But it is definitely classless to devise a cunning strategy to conceal the real reason behind his move by going public on the club and manager who supported him through thick and thin. RVP tried to fire from the wrong shoulders. He tried to make his situation untenable at Arsenal. He tried to make himself look in good light while pointing the entire blame for his move on the club.

RVP is in a responsible position of a club captain and the youngsters in the team look up to him. Its easy for anybody to say how RVP is saying what we all have been saying for so long but there is a massive difference between football fans venting it out on a football forum and a club captain who has been supported, nurtured and loved by everybody at Arsenal be it the players, fans and the manager.

Well PG I trust you have seen a fair bit of barca over the years and Cazorla is probably a little more similar to Iniesta than Silva or Mata. He has the same kind of dribbling style and is comfortable wide and central.

I know his height and frame fill you with a mortal fear but its ok man, it's all good. Want a cuddle?

I think our squad in full form + RvP can compete for trophies next season, Sahin would be an added bonus to cover for injuries at the start of the season.

Robin van Persie staying??

Postby cyberbob_67 » Tue Aug 07, 2012 2:24 pm

Anybody else notice that the recent arsenal.com pics from the first training session in Germany show van Persie in his no. 10 training jersey? Does this mean that he now sees the clubs' ambition and wants to stay?

No, it just means he didn't have any other shirt to wear.

We lacked 2-3 players last season to compete with the title. If RVP stays, Giroud won't have an impact(we wouldnt of signed him at all if we knew RVP was staying), so that leaves Podolski and Cazorla, which is decent? but to challenge for the title? No. Get Sahin in and I think we can compete for the trophies.

Van Persie is still an Arsenal player and his contract lasts another year, so his no.10 is on his kit.

But Wilshere and Diaby would be like new signings!

We had a fullback injury crisis, two new signings brought in during the middle of a shit storm (Wenger's fault), Vermaelen returning from a long term and Szczesny toward the end playing while injured... to be fair.

If RVP does decide to leave, then I'll thank him for one thing at the very least: And that's forcing Wenger's hand to buy good players (one of whom, if a majority of reports are to be believed, is the clubs most expensive signing  ).

And these aren't average, no-name players either. These are players that have actually made a name for themselves in the footballing world in one way or another. It's sad, however, that some kind of catastrophe needs to occur for Wenger to realize that signings needs to be made...

Maybe he was trying to force Wengers hand, maybe it was all just a clever ploy by RVP to get some top quality signings in?

If he stays or not I still think we are going to be a force to be reckoned with this season.
