Wenger - I'll have to rest Robin eventually

Wenger - I'll have to rest Robin eventually

Postby Trina » Sat Oct 22, 2011 10:58 am

Arsène Wenger admits he is finding it almost impossible to rotate Robin van Persie at the moment.

The Arsenal striker has enjoyed an incredible run in this calendar year and, if it were possible, has become even important to his Club side.

The 28-year-old has rattled up 28 goals in 35 games in all competitions during 2011 and, as captain, is leading his team in every sense.

Ahead of the home game with Stoke on Sunday, Wenger admitted he would like to give the Dutchman a breather but has struggled to find an opportunity.

"It is a difficult decision to make at the moment," said the manager. "But I will have to do it.

"On Monday I decide always to rest him and on Friday I play him again.

"I don't know about Sunday. We will assess everybody on Saturday morning, then I'll make the decision on the day. But I will have to rotate a little bit.

"Robin has scored 28 goals in 35 games so you always have that dilemma. This season he is certainly [the best all-round striker in the Premier League] and, in the last six months, certainly the most efficient.

"You like Robin because he's not a typical goal-scorer. When you see him play it never comes to your mind that this guy is a goal-scorer. And then you look at the record and think he's not only a good player, he's a top-class goal-scorer as well.

"For all the other goal-scorers you do the opposite. You think they do not contribute too much to the game but they score the goals. For him you look and say 'this is a good player'. And then you see that he scores as well goals."

He should be using Park and Chamakh more........yeah Chamakh.

There's no point in playing Van Persie all the time and then he suffers injury or burn out, there is a long season ahead.

Chamakh is suffering from a severe lack of confidence and that can only be solved by more playing time

Park has been given absolutely no chance as of yet, which is amazing seeing that we only have three out and out strikers

Play Chamakh. If RVP needs a rest, he needs a rest. We need him fit long term much more than we need him against Stoke.

RVP will be rested and then pick up a knock in training. I say whilst he's fit keep playing him! Henry never had to be rested and played pretty much every game!

Chamakh staring today, lets see what he can do, will wait until he cocks it up before slagging him off.

Well, he's had his rest, should be perky for Chelsea next week! Maybe thats what we should do, let Chamakh/Park do the dirty work in the 1st half, wearing out the opposition, getting lumps kicked out of them etc. then bring on a fresh RVP for the last half hour to utterly rape them.

He has had enough rests over the last few years! If he's fit, play him!!!

I thought he was absolutely dire
if Park had been playing, I would wager he would have scored Chamakh's two good chances
it's academic, I know, but from what I've seen of Park he would have buried them
