Uefa has confirmed that Arsenal striker Robin van Persie will not be allowed to appeal the controversial red card awarded to him against Barcelona.
Having already been booked during the match, the Dutchman received a second yellow for kicking the ball a second after the referee had stopped the game due to the player being offside.
The former Feyenoord man claimed that he was unable to hear the referee's whistle in the presence of 95,000 fans.
However, the governing body has maintained that the 27-year-old will have to serve his mandatory one-game suspension.
A spokesman for Uefa said: "Under Article 44.4 of Uefa's disciplinary regulations, appeals are only allowed against cautions on the grounds of mistaken identity."
Since when has it only been applicable to "Cases of Mistaken Identity"?? - Players in the EPL, UCL, Europa League, so on and so forth are always appealing red card / 2 Cautionary card sending off's if they believe they've been hard done by.
Okay so they don't do it if they know there's a good chance of it failing and the suspension being prolonged but they do it if they feel they're in the right, such as in this case so why suddenly is this "Article 44.4 of Uefa's disciplinary regulations" suddenly coming into play now; when it's RvP who wants to contest it; knowing full bloody well he'd win it?!
