RvP not allowed to appeal his sending off.

RvP not allowed to appeal his sending off.

Postby TRA Dial Square » Thu Mar 10, 2011 4:22 pm

Posted about this in the Wenger/Nasri thread but thought it deserved to go into the RvP section.

Uefa has confirmed that Arsenal striker Robin van Persie will not be allowed to appeal the controversial red card awarded to him against Barcelona.

Having already been booked during the match, the Dutchman received a second yellow for kicking the ball a second after the referee had stopped the game due to the player being offside.

The former Feyenoord man claimed that he was unable to hear the referee's whistle in the presence of 95,000 fans.

However, the governing body has maintained that the 27-year-old will have to serve his mandatory one-game suspension.

A spokesman for Uefa said: "Under Article 44.4 of Uefa's disciplinary regulations, appeals are only allowed against cautions on the grounds of mistaken identity."

Since when has it only been applicable to "Cases of Mistaken Identity"?? - Players in the EPL, UCL, Europa League, so on and so forth are always appealing red card / 2 Cautionary card sending off's if they believe they've been hard done by.

Okay so they don't do it if they know there's a good chance of it failing and the suspension being prolonged but they do it if they feel they're in the right, such as in this case so why suddenly is this "Article 44.4 of Uefa's disciplinary regulations" suddenly coming into play now; when it's RvP who wants to contest it; knowing full bloody well he'd win it?!

That regulation has always been in place.

Even in England, you can only appeal straight reds.

It was a ridiculous sending off but we cant do anything bout it

It's always been like this in the CL. When United knocked us out in the semi final and Fletcher got a red and gave away a penalty at the end for a foul on Cesc that was soft at best. UEFA said it couldn't be appealed because it was not a case of mistaken identity. He got the ball and missed the final for that wrongly given red. It's not some sort of anti-Arsenal rule.

I never suggested it was "Anti-Arsenal" I've just never heard it bought up before.

And if it is the case; wtf were AW/RvP even attempting to challenge it? They're obviously smart enough to know the laws/rules of the game even if UEFA/FIFA aren't...

I didn't even think they had tried to challenge it, I thought this was just a statement from UEFA to let Arsenal and the media know it couldn't be done.

Is it possible to appeal in an attempt for justice for their imbred defenders? You can't just go grabbing our players by the throat and get away with it

I'm sure that can be bought to their attention... However it hasn't even been a talking point amongst commentator's, pundit's or anybody else for that matter...

Shocking to say the least b/c had RvP actually lost it and did the same thing to Alves, Abidal or one of their guys you can bet Wenger's wages on it; a HUGE deal would have been made out of it.
