Wenger warns Dutch over RVP

Wenger warns Dutch over RVP

Postby Trina » Tue Oct 19, 2010 9:11 am

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has left Holland in no doubt regarding the possibility of selecting Robin van Persie in November.

Dutch boss Bert van Marwick is under the impression that his star striker will have suitably recovered from an ankle injury in time to face Turkey on 17th November.

But Wenger is adamant that Van Persie will not be available for the friendly next month and has said it would be 'an absolute scandal' if the forward was called upon.

"I think the Dutch coach has a good sense of humour, there is no chance," said Wenger in the Daily Telegraph.

"That would be an absolute scandal if he plays in a friendly and not a competition here. He would not be ready.

"The players have to perform for their clubs first. If they are okay for their clubs they can play for their national team. You cannot have the reverse."

But Van Marwijk has said: "Robin is expected to be back in the national team next month. We expect him to play."

Van Persie was sidelined in August when he sustained the injury against Blackburn, but Fifa rules mean Holland could call on the striker

If i was Wenger i'd never let him play for Holland ever again. Most of his injuries have been caused playing for them not us.
If John Terry can get away with not playing for England when it suits Chelski why can't we.

So let me see if I've got this right...

He hurts his ankle, not the same as last year, in a nothing challenge and is out for over 3 months?

This guy has to be the slowest healing man on the planet.

Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk has included the 27 year-old, who has been out since late August with an ankle injury, in his 24-man party.

The news will not go down well with Arsenal manager Wenger, who claimed last month that Van Persie had "no chance" of playing in the match.

Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong, who was dropped from the squad for last month's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Moldova and Sweden as punishment for his tackle which broke Hatem Ben Arfa's leg, has again been left out - casting doubt over his international future.

Van Persie is not the only player carrying an injury to be included in the squad.

Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt, Mark van Bommel, Khalid Boulahrouz, Wout Brama, Eljero Elia, Theo Janssen and Ruud van Nistelrooy have also been called up despite injury.

Van Bommel's call-up is likely to add to the strain between Bayern Munich and the Dutch Football Association (KNVB).

Bayern asked for Van Bommel to be released before the qualifier against Sweden after he suffered a recurrence of a knee problem, but Van Marwijk, his father-in-law, claimed he was fit and he played for 70 minutes.

The club had already been in dispute with the KNVB after Arjen Robben returned from the World Cup with a hamstring injury.

Holland squad:
Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Michel Vorm (FC Utrecht); Gregory van der Wiel (Ajax), Khalid Boulahrouz (Stuttgart), Joris Mathijsen (Hamburg), Peter Wisgerhof (Twente), Erik Pieters (PSV Eindhoven), Wilfred Bouma (PSV), John Heitinga (Everton), Hedwiges Maduro (Valencia); Ibrahim Afellay (PSV), Wout Brama (FC Twente), Mark van Bommel (Bayern Munich), Theo Janssen (Twente), Stijn Schaars (AZ Alkmaar), Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan), Rafael van der Vaart (Tottenham), Demy de Zeeuw (Ajax), Eljero Elia (Hamburg); Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Schalke), Dirk Kuyt (Liverpool), Jeremain Lens (PSV), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Hamburg), Robin van Persie (Arsenal).

Dear Holland,

Take him, break his legs and then send him back. It'd stop people talking like he's a world class player for a while.

...but he's just unlucky.

Oh f**k off Van Marwijk. With our luck he will start, play the whole match, score a goal or two then break every bone in his body walking off the field.
