Update van Persie (phone in on Dutch TV)

Postby MikeInHolland » Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:35 pm

I live in Holland and Robin van Persie just held a phone in interview on live TV.
He has damaged one of the ligaments on his ankle and is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks, this after examination at a Dutch hospital. After consultation with the Arsenal medical staff he will be travelling tomorrow (16/11) to (former)Yugoslavia for some well renowned traetment from a specialist there that includes (wait for it) injecting placenta in to the damaged area + 3 days of intensive massaging. Apparently -according to van Persie - this can speed up the recovery process and is tried and tested treatment, however there are no guarantees!

Thanks Mike, Sky Sports have confirmed what you said:

Robin van Persie has moved to allay fears he has suffered a serious ankle injury by insisting he will be back in action within four to six weeks.

The Holland international lasted just ten minutes of Saturday's international friendly with Italy after partially rupturing a right ankle ligament following a challenge with Azzurri stopper Giorgio Chiellini.

Initial reports had suggested van Persie could even miss the rest of the season, although such conjecture was quietened when the Dutch FA confirmed he would not require surgery.

Van Persie, who has been in the form of his life this season, is confident that the problem is nowhere near as serious as first feared.

"The prognosis is that I will be out for four to six weeks," van Persie told the Dutch television station NOS.

The talented 26-year-old has scored eight goals in his last 11 matches for the North London club, who are second to Chelsea in the Premier League.

Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on 29th November, a game van Persie will now miss.

If it is just 4-6 weeks, I suppose we have to count our blessings since it could have been much longer.

Still stupid reason to get injured in the first place though

Who's bright idea was it to build an attack around such a brittle player anyway.

I think Van Persie is fantastic but i can't see him ever becoming a true great like Bergkamp because just as he hits form he always gets injured. Such a shame as i think he has potential to be one of worlds best. Really hope this is not a turning point in our season and that Eduardo can start knocking them in for us (and stay injury free himself)

If Rosicky, Nasri, Walcott stay healthy and perhaps even if Bendtner returns from injury, we have plenty of strength in attack. I could see this giving Walcott the opportunity to play a more forward role.

For the time being I definitely think Eduardo should be up as main striker, with Rosicky and Arshavin swapping in the attacking wide positions. Nasri, Fab and Song in the middle, all sorted =]
