I think Chris Hoy would be a deserving winner this year.

I agree, I think that Hoy should win it but I expect that people will vote for Hamilton.

Lewis. Youngest ever F1 champ. No contest.

I think Joe Calzaghe has already won it once.

The thing with Hamilton is that he can't do anything without his car. Chris hoy did it all on his own, he won three Olympic gold medals at one games. By my reckoning anyone who picks up three Olympic golds and doesn't get to be sports personality of the year can feel very hard done by.

The last 2 times a British F1 driver won the F1 while there were Olympics on, the F1 driver took the award.

I don't for one minute doubt that but were those years when a British Olympian won three Olympic golds?
I fully realise that Hamilton will probably win the award but that doesn't mean that he deserves it. For me Chris Hoy deserves the award for what he achieved on his own. There was no huge back-up team working away on his behalf, he did it all by himself.

I think the Olympic team have already had enough plaudits. They got more medals then we have ever had before in a modern Olympics. What more can you say? Seems a shame to pick out just one for special recognition.
