It played a part for sure but Vince was probably going to go down that route anyway. Cena, the kids love him was created long before the Benoit incident plus USA Network more than likely wanted it and they are paying shit load for it so Vince obliged

As for Benoit himself, Cripps is a shorter version of The Crippler. An old forum I used to frequent back when 606 died deemed The Crippler to aggressive despite having posters with bomb and gun in their name. I shit you not. Shortened it to Cripps from then. The Crippler is what Benoit was called with his signature move, the crippler crossface.

Completely agree. Barrett was a head scratcher as well. Did what he could with a crap gimmick and made it work yet they still hated him. Punk was beyond over and they still buried him as much as they could.
