Me :rofll: Note to self, never give up on Rafa. I love him so much because of his fighting spirit.

I had Medvedev as the favourite tbh but his body just let him down.

That was special from Rafa. To come back from the injuries and then two sets down to someone on peak form was incredible.

Such an amazing player. Absolute legend.

Well done to Rafa. If Djokovic wasn't deported he'd be out in straight sets back in the quarter finals but he was given an opportunity and got the most out of it.

But you can't know that. We wouldn't bother with matches if we could predict the outcome, in any sport.

Medvedev came across very well and was very sporting. He will win a few of these with the big three at the end of their careers and him only 25.

I'm pretty confident. He hasn't beaten Djokovic on a hard court since 2013.

I don't agreee, previous stats go out of the window, anything could have happened. Djokovic might not have got through to play Nadal.

Daniil Medvedev had a heartfelt press conference, which started with a long speech, talking about his journey from when he first started playing tennis, and how tonight ‘the kid stopped dreaming’.

The point was he was really hurt about how the crowd treated him. So much so that he said 'he will not stay long in the sport'.

Then you look at the comments and it's all these people saying he deserved it, that he was provoking the fans, that he has too much disdain for the ball kids, that he acts like a villain, etc...

Seems to be a recurring theme that when you start playing competitively against Rafa/Roger you get branded a villain by their toxic fanbase.

There also seems to be a nationality aspect to it because you won't get this treatment in Shangai, Indian Wells etc...

I think It's time to move one grand slam to Asia and away from the West. It's completely unfair that you have to play 4 out 4 slams against actively hostile crowds.

It's happened for years around all the GS tournaments. The French are notorious for it see Hingis vs Graff, at Wimbledon you have your Federer / Murray die hard fans, and at the US Open it never takes much for the crowd to go mental. It's herd mentality really.

Some of the stuff this year has stemmed from the Kyrgios "Siuuuuu" celebrations and I think Medvedev got the idea they were booing him during his match with Nick and that may have influenced his own behaviour and it snowballed from there. The irony was they had members of the crowd ejected in the men's doubles final (featuring Kyrgios) yesterday because it all got a bit hyper.

You're right though, Med has come along and started to slap their favourite players and they don't like it too much but you really need a thick skin and to knuckle down and plow through it like Novak has.

Thought his speech post match was also good. He's a good guy really.

The Slams have all been going on since the 1800s, there's no way the tennis federation is going to uproot all that history and try to have one moved because the crowds cheer for two beloved icons lol

Top players come and go, the crowd moves with that. Nadal is an absolute legend and a lovely bloke. He concenrates on his game, you hardly ever see him vehmently challenging a point and the crowds love him for that as well as his tennis prowess. Mevedev was challenging the umpire and shouting in a previous match, maybe that had something to do with it. He came across well in his interview though.

Medvedev seems like a crybaby already. Don’t really watch him tbh but Djokovic has dealt with hostile crowds for 10 years and got on with it, why does it matter?

It’s quite clear he hasn’t got the right mentality anyway, thought the US open might change something but doesn’t seem like it.
