But then the same stick used against Fed (he didn't win enough French and therefore multiple career slams) was because Nadal was so dominant on clay. Djokovic won his only French open when both Roger and Nadal withdrew due to injuries.

Djoko could surpass both in GS titles and he will still be no.3 for me, he'd have to massively eclipse them doing something even more special in the process. I think he's a great player obviously and his unbeaten streak was incredible but he'll always be behind those two.

I am going to reserve judgement until it's all said and done.

Opinion automatically discarded.

Also, it's not like he's a serve bot. Best returner of all time. Has many winners and most dominant from the baseline, but not nearly as defensive as Murray.

His game has grown on me tbh, I appreciate it because what I see is every single shot he plays is a wepaon just by the sheer consitency of his accuracy and depth.

He doesn't even need to hit the ball like a sledgehammer for him to be in control, it's astonishing tbh

Pat Cash commented something similar at the end of the Eurosport coverage. Basically that people need to wake up to the fact that Novak could surpass Fedal as the all time GS winner.

He will never have the following of Roger or Rafa, and certainly not the affection that fans have for those two bu ff / when he takes down Rafa at the French then I'll certainly start to think about him in those terms.

Rafa still takes French Open imo. Djokovic has a chance but Rafa still has to be the favorite.

fwiw,

Fed, Nadal and Djoker all great great champions... I only slightly like Fed over Rafa (less pretty and more rounded game) and Djoker over them all ...the latter cos hes more of an underdog, imho

Novak is the best ever ffs.

Not a fan but there is no point denying it any longer.

He will pass Federer's Slam count, it's only a matter of time.

Yep.

Most complete player, superior head to head vs Nadal/Fed and will retire with the most Slams.

I guess you can make the case Federer and Nadal are still greater as they currently have more Slams but with how strong Novak looks combined with how weak the next generation is, I wouldn't be surprised if he retired with 22-24 Slams.

Agree.

This isn't a matter of aesthetics, it's about who is the best player.

Novak has the most effective style. That's all that matters.

Pointless stat unless they’re all the same age/peaked at the same time.

I mean look at the Nadal - Federer one, 23-15 but of those only 3 matches on grass which would most likely swing in Federer's favour, while there are 15 matches on Clay and obviously dominated by Rafa :dontknow:

As for Djoko v Fed, no surprise that it's since 2011 when the record swung...
Federer dominated during their early matches, leading 13–6 by the end of 2010, but Djokovic took over the lead in the head-to-head in 2016, thanks to a 19–9 record since 2011.

Doesn't coincide with Federer's decline at all does it? Guess what, happened to be Djoko's peak as well because there's 6 years between them ffs.

Other than Wimbledon, there isn't many relevant grass tournaments. Out of the 9 ATP 1000 Tournaments, 6 are on hard surfaces, 3 are on clay. It's not Nadals fault Federer happens to be dominant on the surface one tournament is played on.

But in 2011 Federer was 29 and Djokovic was 23. This doesn't coincide with Federer's decline but Djokovic entering his prime. I mean this is his breakthrough year, where he had his crazy streak and destroyed everyone in his path, so if facing tougher opposition means you're declining then i guess his decline started at 26 since he hasn't dominated Tennis like Nadal and Djokovic past that age.

Also, Nadal shared his prime with both players and completely dominated Federer, but losing to Djokovic.
