2011 Aussie Rules(AFL) Finals series.

Postby AustralianArsenal » Thu Sep 01, 2011 8:10 am

I figured to start a thread on this as it might have some intrest. It's one week to go unti the AFL finals series. This week(Round 24) will settle the top 8 with two big games to decide one final. Carlton vs St Kilda and Sydney vs Brisbane.
If the St Kilda wins and they will stay in 6th. However if they loose and Sydney win Sydney will move up to 6th for a home final.
We do know however who will play each other for the other 3 finals in the first week.
Collingwood vs West Coast
Carlton vs Essendon
Geelong vs Hawthorn
(Times and dates TBC)
Here's how the AFL finals work:

St Kilda would need to play out of thier skins to even get to a prelim. Granted we've been playing well. Mind you we've broke a club record. For the first time ever we've made 4 finals series in a row.
I hope Collingwood suffer the Collywobbles. To be frank though it will be a Collingwood Geelong final.

Big suprise this week in the teams. Gardiner has been named for the saints. First time this year he's been named in the squad. As to why he was named well..... I'm guessing we are going tall.
The other intresting team list is Hawthorn. 6 of thier best players have been given a rest for the Gold Coast game. Their coach even tipped off the Gold Coast coach that they would be dropping players!
And of course this:

What an idiot.

They've been playing well. However haven't injuries played thier part? Last time St Kilda and Hawthorn met( Round 8 ) The saints we played very well in the first quarter(Held them to just 0.1) before we were walked over. Even then I wouldn't take much out of that. St Kilda are a much different side now.
Of for that to happen we would have to get through the swans. Which at the moment are winning against Brisbane. 11.7 (73) to 6.6 (42) at Half time.
It's looking likely St Kilda will have to win tonight. Which I don't think is such a bad thing. Winning form is good form. Unlike Collingwood getting thier pants pulled down. Sure they properly didn't bother but Geelong have a big mental edge over them now.
Sydney have beaten Brisbane. It's on for tonight.
FINAL: SYD: 18.11 (119) BRIS: 9.13 (67)

Intrestingly 2 late changes for the Blues:
OUT: Michael Jamison (knee) and Andrew Carrazzo (TBC).
IN: Jordan Russell and Marcus Davies.
INTERCHANGES:
Carlton: Kane Lucas, Jeff Garlett, Jordan Russell
Substitute: Marcus Davies
St Kilda: Jack Steven, Ben McEvoy, Dean Polo
Substitute: Farren Ray

It's just another name for the Ruck, Rover and Ruck-Rover. There was one moron in Adelaide a few months back who walked out onto the ground and nearly got cleaned up. :rofll:
Mind you the crowd have been very vocal! Giving the 3 men in red a mouthful. Who lets face it have had a bit of a crap night. It might of just infulences a few decisions.

Goal Umpires: David Dixon, Luke Walker. Emergency – Chelsea Roffey.
I note in that list no Razor Ray!

Past 5 Matches: Geelong won 3, Collingwood 2.
Last time they met: Geelong Def. Collingwood by 96 points (Round 24)
Last final: (2010 Prelim Final. Collingwood by 41 points)

The two best teams meet in the first Saturday in October. Both teams however have had selection headaches with injuries which one has taken thier on Collingwood. Beams has been taken out for first year Alex Fasolo. Question marks are over the heads of Reid and Jolly. No word yet from Geelong on Steve J knee however he has trained during the week. He has been named but it doesn't mean he will play. He will face a fitness test tommrow.

The weather will be a factor. Heavy rain overnight and rain forcast until Saturday afternoon. Geelong in recent history have played well in the wet.

Form. Geelong have gone through the finals series without any worries bar injuries. Collingwood have been far from impressive. West coast they struggled badly. Hawthorn had them on toast until the umpires screwed Hawthorn.

My tip: Geelong by 10. I think they've done better during the finals.

FINAL TEAMS:
NO CHANGE
Interchanges: Coll: Sharrod Wellingham, Leigh Brown, Andrew Krakouer
Substitute: Alex Fasolo
Gee: Mathew Stokes, Trent West, Allen Christensen
Substitute: Mitch Duncan

Three Quarter Time:
Geelong: 13.7 (85) Collingwood: 12.6 (78)
What a GAME!
Umpireing has been very poor. How the goal umpire missed a poster is beyond me! In general play it's been a real contest
Get set for a ripper of a final quarter!
FINAL SCORE:
Geelong: 18.11 (119) Collingwood: 12.9 (81)
Geelong are the 2011 AFL Premiers by 38 points
