Thought I saw a newspaper image on Twitter of Shaun Murphy when he was about 20 saying he's grateful for a chance so I'm guessing he was given a chance when he was an amateur.

IMO the baby faced Murphs is acting like a baby here, the player is an amateur so the pro should be beating him - which would mean that £6,500 should be easy money for the pro, yet when the amateur shows you up you throw the toys out.

This article seems a bit miss leading to me though...

Ronnie O'Sullivan via the Mirror wrote:Ronnie O'Sullivan launches scathing criticism of Shaun Murphy after amateur rant

Ronnie O’Sullivan has taken a shot at Shaun Murphy following his controversial rant about amateur snooker players.

The Rocket, who is currently competing at the UK Championship, dismissed Murphy's suggestion that amateur players should be barred from professional snooker events.

While ‘The Magician' received support from fellow pros such as Mark Williams and Neil Robertson, O’Sullivan told Murphy to "get used to it" and "find another job"

"I hope it gets worse, honestly. I hope it gets worse for them," said O’Sullivan. "They better start looking for a job if they don’t like it.

"I drew a line under it a long time ago. I can change what I do, that’s what I’m saying to Murphy, go and get a job, do something else, play snooker for fun because you’re going to have loads more of that.

"Get your head around it, you’ve got choices to make. Five or six years ago I made a real conscious effort to play for fun and just enjoy it. I went and got a job and played this for a hobby.

"You’ll never hear me talk like that because it’s a hobby, but when it means something to you then it can hurt."

Is that scathing criticism of Shaun Murphy? I read it as Ronnie saying he used to be like that himself but then decided to make it a hobby, the bit at the bottom where he goes on to say "when it means something to you then it can hurt" shows he's being sympathetic towards Shaun.

I recall Ronnie winning a tournament a few years ago and saying that'll pay for his kids school fees :rofll:

Something I disagree with is women playing in the mens tournaments, it's usually 2 women, why only 2? that's unfair, more of the women should get a chance if we insist on giving them a chance, why should it be the top 2 women when pretty much the top 40 guys get into a tournament,

Let's be honest it's discrimination anyway,
You get 2 women joining the mens tournaments - we know they'll struggle?
You don't 2 guys joining the womens tournaments - we know they'll win?

A womens tournament with 2 guys in would mean more women get the opportunity to play men and this is something that could help them improve their game.

In a nutshell, letting 2 women join mens tournaments is just Barry Hearn trying to tick the "no sexism" here box while trying to get more female viewers.

I'd rather just see more womens snooker on the TV anyhow, you wouldn't just throw an Arsenal ladies player into the Arsenal mens first team, if it ain't done in all sports it shouldn't be done in any, the BBC have started promoting womens football a lot this past 2 years, maybe they can get some womens snooker on their too.

Good post
Firstly being over 11 frames the pro should win, i watched that match and think murphy took the player lite. The women playing to me they are no better than a amateur,
The quality of the top 16 is incredible these days but the bottom end of professional snooker has got weaker on the grounds of player now being able to buy their way into Q school rather than earning it being the only way

Had a poor couple of seasons, always thought he would be the first asian to win it, he still has it in him if he hits form, but he has been overtaken by other younger players. Only a matter of time to when Asians dominate. Even huge amount chinese players now in NZ my pairs partner is Chinese.
