Commonwealth Games, New Delhi

Postby Gunner Down Under » Tue Oct 05, 2010 11:31 pm

The 19th Commonwealth Games, held in New Delhi (that is if I can get my Roman numerals right) will be in its 3rd day today, and currently the medal tally has Australia first, India second, England third, Malaysia 4th, and South African 5th.

Australia have 9 Gold, 9 silver and 5 Bronze with a total of 23
India have 5 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze with a total of 11
England have 2 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze with 12 medals but India have more gold which puts England 3rd.

And to top it all off Australia are leading. ;)

how on earth have the aussies gotten so many so quickly. given we finished above them in the olympics quite easily i'd have expected much of the same this time around. perhaps events in the olympics the aussies missed out on medals for were events dominated by america/russia etc, now they're not here it gives the ockers more medals.
we should do well on the track though, surprised to see the bit of cycling yesterday that i watched it was again aussies winning gold and not the english team - which is a very strong team.

im watching the WRASSLING right now, interesting to see how that goes without the ruskis and yanks who generally dominate.

Congratulations to Chris Walker-Hebborn who I used to swim with at West Suffolk Swimming Club. He came fourth in the 200 meters backstroke today.

Thanks for moving this mods  I forgot there was the sport section

All the stadiums are empty, and that's due to the ticket booths not being constructed, apparently they were finished yesterday

the government have asked schools to send their entire student population to the games as days out to try and build up numbers LOL.

wonder how much money they're losing.
