Lions are doing terribly this year. 7-4 record and losing 28-10 at home to MSU. :(

They've had a rough year. The Big Ten doesn't get enough credit for how tough it is, mostly due to poor bowl showings in recent years. They're not a bad team though. With teams like OSU, MSU, Wisconsin and then talent like Robinson at Michigan who can win a game on his own... a good team could very easily find themselves with 3 losses before they know it.

About to wrap up the big 10 title (shared) today with a big win over Michigan today. Up 30 early in the 4th qtr right now. They went into the weekend ranked 8th in the nation, but will probably miss out on the rose bowl if Wisconsin can beat Northwestern today.

The title will probably be shared with Michigan State and Wisconsin if they both win today.

Oh yeah, and my Alma Mater Miami University (Ohio) won the MAC East and will be playing in the conference championship game against Northern Illinois. Miami was just 1-11 last season, so it was very unexpected for them to turn it around like this. Long gone are the days of Ben Roethlisberger... He was the QB when I was there, and now with the Steelers in the NFL for those who don't know. And he has two Superbowls...

Edot: And the team that Miami beat to clinch the MAC East was my 2nd Alma Mater Akron U. ;)

I hardly count Akron though, Miami will always be first in my heart. I lived at Miami for 4 1/2 years, and I just commuted and worked at Akron while getting my Master's. That school doesn't have the same level of attachment by a long shot.

Aren't they suspended from playing in bowls still next year?

That's going to hurt their recruiting for a few years.

Still USC though...

They'll still be able to attract good talent, but the real elite players are probably going to be a bit harder to persuade. Man Oregon is going to be tough to beat with their training facilities and partnership with Nike. Since Nike founder Phil Knight's a graduate of OU and all. Looks to have started paying dividends already.

Doesn't take long to build a monster team in college football since the entire squad turns over every 4 or 5 years. They're going to be a tough team for years to come I think. Time will tell.

And that training facility is the envy of the entire sports world, not just colleges. Talk about an unreal recruiting tool. They're basically a Nike test facility.

Beat USC 3 of the last 4 seasons... :dontknow:

USC did destroy them a couple of years ago though. USC I fear is on the decline since Carroll left, and it really showed this year. And if you ask me, USC was well behind Oregon this year. But once they get their bowls back and can start full recruiting again it will be a different story.

Yeah I don't doubt it at all.

I miss the good old days of PAC-10 v Big Ten in the Rose Bowl... :(

Not the same with this BSC BS.

Nittany Lions start with a win! 41-7 over Indiana State :)

But why are we not even ranked in any of the top 25 ranking stats? :( Can someone explain how the rankings work, and why there are so many, and which is the definitive ranking list?

Next up - #2 Alabama State...

The initial rankings at the beginning of the season are always going to be a bit off, since its college you have alot of players coming and going, and they folks that do that rankings go by last seasons results as well as just looking at what type of players you have, so its really just a guess the first couple of weeks. After that, they go by your record, your strength of schedule, and they go by your performance. For instance, if Penn State played a top team and beat them by a big margin, they're going to get ranked higher most likely then if they beat an average team by the same amount of points. Its all about who you play, and how you play, meaning, if you blow a team out , or just barely win, that all gets taken into account. And its kind of a joke to be honest. I don't like the ranking system personally, but I love watching college football.

Playoffs to be introduced for 2014 season. I don't care who lobbied for it but, it's high time it made it's comeback.
