Glad to see the England Cricket team get recognition, were Brawn in the running because it is some achievement to beat them.

Pathetic choice

Strauss becomes Superman

Haye wins David vs Goliath title clash with broken hand

Button wins World Championship from the basement

Yet Giggs who put in some accomplished performances, many off the bench wins it. I can see why he was in the list but to win....... no way.

Seems more for sentiment than his acheivements this year (like his PFA award)

I think he is a great player don't get me wrong but BBC sports personality should be about what happened in 2009, not over a career, once again a lifetime acheivment award would be more appropriate.

Giggs!! Unbelievable!!
I think he is the best ever player in the premiership but doesn't deserve to win it.. Button for me deserved it..

agree. He may well have had a good career but surely the award is suposed to go to someone who has done something outstanding in 2009. Utterly awful choice, cannot believe he won it. Shouldn't even have been on the shortlist. (not just sour grapes cos he's man utd - as far as man u players go he's ok I just genuinely don't understand what he's done to win it)

I think a big reason he got it could be the list this year

Mark Cavendish
Tom Daley
Jessica Ennis
Phillips Idowu
Beth Tweddle

All these people I think are to do with athletic or Olympic type sports which if most of are honest we don't really care about unless its the middle of the Olympics.

Andy Murray - Quite a lot of people just dont like him

Andrew Strauss - If you dont follow cricket you couldnt care less about it

Jenson Button - I thought might get it

David Haye - If it had been klitschko he beat maybe he would have got it.

Yes there weren't any obvious candidates this year, Giggs was just a ridiculous choice. At least Button didn't get it, for the first half of the season he was driving a car which was clearly superior to anything else around. When some of the others caught up with Brawn then Button was shown up for what he is, a decent but clearly average driver.
