I see people are ecstatic about this :rofll:

Viewership has fallen off a cliff in America (for comparison, the 2018 PyeongChang opening ceremony drew 27.9 million viewers for the prime time broadcast and the 2022 Beijing opening ceremony live + prime time only managed 14 million). Without looking at numbers, I'd attribute the massive drop in viewership to:
1. China hosting.
2. General Olympics fatigue. We just had games six months ago in Tokyo.
3. Third straight Olympics in East Asia. People are sick of huge time zone differences.
4. NBC's coverage in general just being ass.
5. The NHL not releasing players.

Maybe the next three Olympics in Paris, Milan-Cortina, and LA will be better.

3rd straight Olympics in east Asia… didn’t realise that.
I guess they have the money to bribe the Olympic committee.
Got to laugh at the OC taking the stance that politics and Sport should not be mixed… they relaxed the rules in Tokyo.
Depends on the host country, obviously.

1 and 3 is definitely a factor. When I lived in America the summer Olympics were on and I missed all the good events because all the coverage I could find was of the US playing beach volley ball or baskeball or something. Sod the good events going on like you know, finals in the athletics and stuff.

I love the Winter Olympics and really don't care if the Yanks have lost interest. I'm sure most of em really don't appreciate that its a world event and can't be held in the good ol USA every time. Plus, their massive team are not exactly on fire so far.

I'm not a fan of it being held in places like Sochi and Beijing, but some fabulous venues so far....the snowboard slope style course was the Great Wall of China carved out of snow. Looking forward to the ski cross event!

I'm a sports junkie, but it's hard to get into a competition when most of it is over night. It's a disgrace that China has the Olympics, but it's not the athlete's fault and they have a finite time in which to excel so they can't boycott it.

I watch normal Olympics. World cups in various sports. Winter Olympics just never appeal. Are GB any good?

It’s difficult to get into any of the events, because there are so many and we are only ever seeing snippets of each one. So you don’t get the story, just the best bits and then it’s onto the next one.

We have some good GB competitors, but frankly they are right up against it, across the board.

I agree. It's good to watch the earlier rounds and see who is good and in with a chance and to get into the event, what to look out for and who to look out for, we only see them every four years.

How shit is the drug testing operation when an athlete is tested in October last year and only now, right in the middle of the Olympics, when that person is already competing, do we get the positive result.
