I love watching this. Opening ceremony now then down to business tomorrow. Am I the only one going to watch this?

I don't know why you've turned up on this thread, you've already made your feelings known on the subject.

I think they're all inspiring. I watched a backstroke swimming race in Rio. The first guy was holding on with one arm, they moved the camera, the next guy had both arms amputated just below the elbow so was holding on with the crook of his arm, The final one had no arms on was holding on with his mouth. They're terrific athletes and refuse to let a disability get in the way. One Dutch athlete won gold at the last paralynpics in a wheelchair race and she died a couple of years ago. Every morning she was in severe pain, but she refused to give in to it.

Lots of medals coming in for GB team, gold in the swimming.

Absolutely.

Think you're referring to Belgian paralympic athlete Marieke Vervoort.

Yes, she's the one I thought she was Dutch. Sorry Marieke.

I couldn't imagine having no arms and going into a swimming pool, much less competing and swimming two lengths as I just watched a competitor do.
He swims faster and better than I do able bodied,
Amazing people and a wonderful event,

I am massively impressed by some of these athletes, who overcome appalling disabilities, to achieve so much.

What makes me uncomfortable, is seeing people win vast numbers of medals in cycling, when they have a deformed hand……and then get made a Dame to boot!

They do try to match abilities. I know that some events are more mixed and they have a time deficit. Storie didn't win one gold medal in Rio even though her time was the fastest because they either added to her time or deducted from Kadeena Cox's time as she is more disabled.

GB Paralympians doing brilliant job out in Tokyo. Ellie Challis, what a girl, no arms or legs, but won silver yesterday and came 4th today. These athletes say they want to be seen as world class athletes not to be admired and to be an inspiration for but how can they not be? I just watch them all with awe.
