Awful decision. This means they're punishing the players, nothing more. People will still watch, people will still play. General spectators are barely aware of any ranking points. This just means that the "little people" who've worked very hard to qualify for Wimbledon (specifically its qualifications), now won't get the points that would normally allow them access to some Challenger tournaments; if a qualifier goes on an insane Raducanu like run like in last year's US Open, you could very well have a scenario where they're not eligible for the US Open 2 months later. It also means that all good grass players are just screwed, because they can't defend last year's points. f***ing Berrettini over massively, and Djokovic will automatically drop to third/4th in the rankings even if he wins Roland-Garros (this one is more of a pro tbh). They're just screwing up the rankings.

Should've frozen last year's results for Russian players while letting others compete for this year's points.

Tennis authorities have stripped Wimbledon of its ranking points for 2022 because Wimbledon banned Russian and Belarusian players.

So no players will get any ranking points for playing at Wimbledon this year.

Oh, i thought players would get to keep the points from the previous year. I agree it's extremely stupid and f***ing with the players in that case.

Djokovic getting royally f***ked with once again, this time through no fault of his own. The guy can't catch a break.

After reading Yago's post it's a lot more complicated than I thought

Not sure what solution would have been best

ATP will not award any points for competing in Wimbledon this year. This is coming after their unilateral decision to ban all Russian players from participating.

Very good decision from the ATP. You can be as pro-Ukraine and anti-Russian government as you want, and ban entities like national teams, but banning someone simply because they have a Russian nationality is scandalous and the All England Club should be ashamed.

Agree.
Don't know what they were thinking, but what they did was discriminatory.

There are Ukrainian sportsmen and women - individuals - who find themselves unable to compete in various sporting events and competitions because their country is currently being illegally invaded by Russia. They are either fighting to defend their country, or working in in some other job that they wouldn't ordinarily be doing if Russia wasn't blowing their country to pieces and killing their fellow citizens.

Whilst those people find themselves unable to compete for those reasons, it's a bit off that Russians can. I think the decision taken by the LTA was the correct one.

Indeed. Alcaraz dispatching Khachanov in impressive fashion, faces Zverev in the quarters. Repeat of Madrid bloodbath?

Rune beats Tsitsipas. Rune has been playing really well this year and improved massively, and Tsitsipas just wasn't convincing so far, but still an upset. Very weak from Tsitsipas though, basically gifted that.

But the real story of the day is Marin Cilic thinking it's 2014 and absolutely destroying Medvedev 6-2, 6-3, 6-2. Brilliant performance from him.

Huge match.

Nadal to retire if Djokovic humiliates him on clay again?
