[PLEASE READ] Problems accessing GoonersWorld

Postby Ellimist » Sun Apr 22, 2012 10:48 am

This has now been resolved. The domain has been renewed and forum access should be back to normal.

IMPORTANT: Those of you who had used the script to access GW, please run the script again with administrator permissions so that the changes to your system are undone. Otherwise you may have problems later on if GW's IP changes.

Here's the lowdown: GoonersWorld's domain has expired and the only one who can renew it is Trina, who is in the hospital. Those of you who can still access GW have the IP of the server cached in their system, but it will expire within 24 hours.

I have created a small script which will alter some files so that you can access GoonersWorld till the domain is renewed. Download it from HERE.

Instructions:

For Windows 7/Vista:
  • Extract the files contained within the ZIP file.
  • Right-click on gw.bat and select "Run as administrator".
  • Select "Yes" when the prompt appears.
  • Restart your computer.

For Windows XP:
  • Extract the files contained within the ZIP file.
  • Right-click on 'gw.bat', select "Properties". Select the Compatibility tab, select the "Run This Program As An Administrator" check box, and then click OK.
  • Double-click on 'gw.bat'.
  • Restart your computer.

This tool is for Windows only. Those of you who are on Linux/Mac, you should be able to figure it out on your own.

After the domain has been renewed, you can run the batch file again to undo the changes made to your system by the script.

So what do we do with the file? Save? Open? Save and Open? :S
I'm out, pushed before I could jump.
It was fun.

Always Arsenal.

Read the ReadMe.txt file contained within the zip and follow the instructions.

Firstly, I hope she'll feel well? Why is she at the hospital?

I guess the script won't help me, most of my time at the forum is through TapaTalk.

The domain will be renewed after she comes out.

yosifun wrote:Firstly, I hope she'll feel well? Why is she at the hospital?

She's expecting a baby girl.

If you are on an Android platform and have a rooted phone, append these lines at the end of /system/etc/hosts :
Code: Select all
98.142.220.84 goonersworld.co.uk
98.142.220.84 www.goonersworld.co.uk

There's a 30 day grace period in which the domain can be renewed. The domain expired on 21st April, so it can be renewed at any time between 21st of next month.

 forgot all about her expecting a baby.

Thanks for the Android help, my phone isn't rooted, I'll just wait patiently. :)

Read the ReadMe.txt file you get after decompressing the ZIP file linked in my first post.

Although, if you are able to access the forum now, you might have done it right, or you might have an ISP who has a really stale cache.

I can't do anything since I am not using a computer. Anyway, I hope Trina will recover soon.

I'm accessing this fine without any sort of fix. Going round the houses to do it though.

Went on to Twitter, searched for "goonersworld", found a direct link to an article from there and it works fine.
