I am no Wenger sympathizer but I agree, there is no way we can match this kind of spending. We obviously have money but there is no way we can afford to go out and break the transfer world record whenever we feel like it like United, City and probably Chelsea can.
There is still no excuse for the pathetic Petr Cech transfer window and subsequently not winning the title up against Leicester and spuds though....

Actually we could ..... if we wanted to we could spend that and more ... we just choose not to ..... our club is valued 2015/6 at just over 2b by Forbes (and that will have gone up a lot in 12 months) we have cash reserves of 280m .... we would only have to leverage by less than 10% (200m) to match the Utd spend above ....

Right now Utd have 545m debt some 20% leveraging ... we could not only match them but outspend them by 200m if we took on the same level of debt ... as I said we CHOOSE not to compete .... we just lack the balls ....

Hear hear
Every time somebody says we can't it plays right into our boards hands
We should not be playing junior accountants talking about how we should be taking offers for players
We should be expecting our manager to be looking for the best players to win us as many trophys as humanly possible
That's our job
Gunners do your job

You didn't consider here that they also sold players (for estimated 150m £) plus without calculating/researching I would say we spent at max 100m £ net less in the same timeframe but raised the banking account by several millions to secure the payment of 600 employees ..

I think we are actually in the mix this year, we have a squad of men this time round, this feels like one of our best starts since we last won the title and we basically gave the first two games up.

Chelsea were extremely poor today and are clearly in a transitional period of how they want to set up. We struggled against Southampton and at times against ten man hull with 2 late efforts making the score what you should expect. Sanchez at CF kills too many of our attacks as he drops deep too often.
