IMO modric is a bit more the deeper kind of player rather than a '10' aka CAM but he's great in both positions.
Still I would have Özil over Modric if talk about the CAM spot, not just because Modric is a spud but Mesut is a real assist machine who can both score and assist.

It just seems funny they're apparently after Modric & I hear this as well. Still think it's bollocks personally though.
