bige1919 wrote:Man you guys are picky. You are over complicating things I think, he had 17 premier league goals this season! Tied for 4th, look at the list of players behind him its crazy. He has gotten better every single year in the league in terms of his stats, and is in his prime. I think this would be a perfect time to pick him up. I don't care if we play him on the wing or as an CAM, I would definitely start him ahead of Rosicky and Gervinho. 17 goals is 17 goals, and goals win you games not style of play. I highly doubt Rosicky or Gervinho will ever match that.

And you're under complicating things.

There is more to football than goals, and just because he did it once doesn't mean he can again, or that he will, especially on a new team with a new style. And if you wanted to play him in the middle, then expect more of the same from Arsenal, no trophies, cause he ain't good enough in the middle, and if we want to be a serious challenger for trophies we need better. Don't get caught up in stats.

Plus he was the main man at Fullham, you can't expect him to come here and score just as many, he ain't gonna steal goals from RvP or Theo, or Poldoski. He would have to fit into a system and a style of play that he ain't suited for imo.

I disagree. Maybe he wouldn't have 17 goals again, but he knows how to find the net better than any of our other midfielders and RvP needs some help in that department. Obviously what Podolski can do at Arsenal is yet to be seen. Quality is quality in my eyes, and he has it. I don't think he would have much problem fitting into the Arsenal style of play imo.

Well I do. If we all want Arsenal to be the best in England, and Europe, which I'm sure that we all do, then we need better than him in our starting XI. You look at City who barely won the league, they have players like Silva, Aguero, Yaya, Kompany, and yet we want Arsenal to sign players like Dempsey, and expect to be serious contenders? Maybe for the domestic cups, but he ain't good enough for our starting XI if we want to be serious about competing. Like I said about 10 times now, if he wants to warm the bench fine, but we need better starters, and that will push everyone else back to make the overall squad depth great. .

And yes, I know someone will say "but we don't have the money City does". That is obvious, but buying 1 or 2 world class players when we needed them and not letting certain ones go would have put us in great position to compete for everything, now Wenger has got us to the point to where we need too many to afford all at once.

We all have the same desires for Arsenal. No one is saying we don't need world class players, I agree with you %100 there. But we can't sign all world class players all the time. We still need to sign other players which will improve the squad but aren't world class players necessarily. I definitely think Dempsey would improve the team in this aspect over the likes of some of our other midfielders.

And I too think he can improve the squad, just not starting XI. I'd rather have him then say Denilson or Arshavin thats for sure

I wouldn't go changing Arsenal's style of play for a 30 year old though.

You mean the style of play that has got us zero trophys in 7 years.

Yup, and the same reliance on technical qualities, fast pace one-touch passing and intelligent movement that brought us doubles and an unbeaten season.

Formation changes and an annual loss off proven talent are more to blame.

Arsenal~Fanatic wrote:The execution of style is faulty not the style perse. Put a to quality CAM in our team , Keep RVP and with Podolski in , we would be scoring goals for fun.

Please name them then, because honestly I thought we had settled this on your thread, there are none available that would actually improve the starting 11 and be able to make an immediate impact. And no im not considering people like Sneijder who are on absurd wages. Hernanes is staying at Lazio, Gotze at Dortmund, Kagawa is to United, Ericksen is not ready yet, Modric will not be bought by Arsenal, Ganso would not transition smoothly, Diego Ribas is past it, Dembele is not better than Dempsey, Affelay is a wide player and injury prone and Hazard is to Chelsea. I could go on, but do I need too...

RvP... with Giroud as the main striker.

Affelay if his injuries are behind him. Same goes for Wilshere, who's technical ability at 17 was twice as good as Dempsey.

Rosicky is a better option than Dempsey. He was in and out of the squad at the beginning of the season, but towards the end became a mainstay and started racking up assists... 3 in the last 5 games.

Strong rumour going around that US & Fulham star of EPL will b joining Arsenal this summer? Hope so=watch Arsene Wenger take Dempsey higher?

This is coming from Alan Hinton; Forest should know who he is - But if any of you don't, he's won 2 titles w/ Derby, played for Wolves, Nottingham Forest and England he used to coach The Seattle Sounders & the Whitecaps and is now part of the Sounders broadcast team.

After all the speculation and his agent hinting (or even saying) he was Arsenal bound; him saying he wants to stay in London and play CL Football and with him NOT being at FFC training today.

The rumour mill is circulating that Clint Dempsey is close to signing for.... Liverpool

Eh... It just doesn't make sense.

This IMO was the one w/ the least "EyeTK" nonsense blowing on it. Just a few updates here and there, with him claiming he wants to stay in London and play CL Football. - His Agent said he'd choose us over CFC/MUFC due to playing time etc.

It looked like the one which was most going to happen next...
