Yes because we had worldclass wingers back then. Walcott and G-man arent even 10% of what Pires was. Put Vieira and Gilberto in our team now and we would lack creativity.

But we'd be more solid at the back. Double edged sword really all depends on how we want the team to play.
Would we be happy playing more conservative football but winning or drawing more games ?

In case Jenkinson really turns out to be awful I really wouldn't mind to see him replaced by Mathieu Debuchy.
He had an outstanding season at Lille, has an inch-perfect cross in his right foot, can both attack/defend and shows great aggression and commitment every game.
With BS3 injured i'm convinced he will be replaced by Debuchy, can't wait to see how he'll perform against top-countries since this guy has shown more than once in both CL and Ligue 1 that he's quality.

Sorry mate but this is just pure arse gravy here.

How can people say that its a double edged sword? Does nobody remember the invincibles or our double winning teams?

They kept the ball better than we do now, moved the ball better than we do now, were faster and stronger than we are now, counter attacked better than any team on the planet and defended as well as any team on the planet.

Wengers early teams invented a new brand of football, every team in the world, the Real Madrids, the Man Utds even though successful aspired to play the way we played, it mixed possession, one touch passing and fancy technique with raw power, pace and counter attacking.

I hate Jamie Redknapp but there is a quite he said about a year back about how we used to play under Wenger, he said "Back in the day, Arsenal would play around you leaving you chasing shadows, and if you wanted to take the fight to them, they would go to war with you, and win".

And yet Wenger abandoned his own philosophy, sold off our best players, adopted an Ajax inspired 4-3-3, subsequently what Cruyff tried to get Barcelona to do years ago, and now we get called Barcelona "lite", when it was us who actually invented a brand of football whilst they were Real Madrids feeder club

You don't even have to go back a far as GG to see Arsenal at their most powerful, it was a team Wenger put together himself!

Which makes me all the more angry that we find ourselves in the predicament we are in now. Wenger might have sold players back in the day, Anelka and the like, but at least back then, he actually replaced them, he can't even be bothered to do that now.

Didn't want to make a thread or add it to a 'Kaka' thread b/c to be fair this is the ONLY place this is coming from and I've never heard of this guy before today...

Real Madrid midfielder Kaká is close to completing a €20million move to Arsenal this summer, earning £100,000 per week.

To sum up the big deals: Podolski + Kaká to Arsenal, Marin + Hazard to Chelsea & Kagawa to United.

I have sources (not of the HP variety) that Kaká → Arsenal will be confirmed late next week. Not official as of yet though.

Kaka to Arsenal? I'd be in the Moon, if it were true, but... 20 million? And 100,000 wages? And Arsenal signing somebody like Kaka? WHAT?

His contract still runs untill 2015 though, I know he's 30 years old but if he'll leave Real Madrid this summer I can still see him go for €25+ to clubs like PSG etc.

I can see kaka being sold relatively cheaply to make way for a landmark signing. I just hope it isn't RVP!!!

Kaka will rock if he comes to Arsenal. But it's either Kagwa or Kaka. I can't see it being both, unless Kaka is part of a deal for Captain Vantastic.

I think Kaka + 20 million is something Madrid won't mind offering. I wouldn't mind a straight swap for Higuain though.
