Chris Woods is cross-eyed and he played for England. Anyway it is not a cross-eyed player thread. So JOHAN DJOUROU INTERESTS JUVE.....

LOL I remember one game in particular where Djourou came on as a sub and then 5 minutes later we were asked to defend a set piece deep in our half of the field. All I remember is like 2-3 players (maybe Rambo and Song) coming over and pointing at him then at the player he was to mark or area he was to cover. The deer-in-headlights stare comes to mind lol.

That being said, I would be VERY happy if we could get rid of Squillaci who's an even bigger waste of space and just keep moving Johan down the sub bench.. getting rid of 2 incompetent CBs in the same window would be just too good and aint gonna happen lol

What exactly is he being judged on??? His last few games of last season or his handful of games at right back this season?

He turned a corner last season. He was stronger in the challenge, won almost everything in the air, stayed tight and never lost CF's when they droped deep, brought the ball out of defence with confidence... he really was a different player to the young Bambi he looked like previously, he was CERTAINLY worthy of being 4th choice!!! A bad end to the year and a few shit games at RB doesn't suddenly make him shit.

... Vertonghen is better though, so if he arrived at the expense of Djourou I wouldn't complain :hiding:

he's been awful at CB this year too
he played there in the 8-2 and was our worst player

think he may have shared that dubious honour with traore mate, he could,nt cope with nani

There is one thing about Djourou that I really like and it is his passing, it is exceptional for a CB. He also has some pace on him and can get forward well with the attack. If he could just improve his positioning I would say he would not be someone I want to sell.

Last season, he got a run of games and knew there was no one to displace him, which gave him confidence and time to pick up form. Kos still covered him alot in that period. Anyway he has reverted back to his old self to season, the sign that someone really shouldn't be playing for a team of our calibre. Look at Vermaelean he had a string of dodgy games like Milan but quickly jumped back to his old self.

We all know our injury records and we have all seen Djourou play, from this I really struggle to see why some think he is good enough to be fourth choice, when history shows that he will get a least 25+ games.

It's alot easier when you're back in your old position and are first on the team sheet week in week out.

Bingo.

Its taken Bendtner 6 months of inconsistency and now he has scored 4 in his last 5 games and doesn't look like stopping.

99% of players need at least time in order to hit some sort of form.

They cant all hit the ground running after 3 months of being in and out of the team etc.

The last time Djourou got a run of games we didn't lose a game with him in defence and the last time Bendy got a run if games he scored 9 and assisted 7 in 11 games, then was immediate dropped for Van Persie.

Our team should be goid enough that we can afford players the time they need to return to form, sadly we don't.

What else is funny? Kos gets injured and Djourou comes in, gets battered by Heskey, but stands firm against him and we keep a clean sheet, Kos comes back against QPR, defence gets f***ked by a similar striker...

Makes you wonder if we would have been better off resting Kos or Verm and leaving a physically imposing player at the back after a good game, Fergie would have...

Djourou is tall but he is not 'physically imposing'.

He is physically stronger than Kos and Verm, he handled Heskey, who IMO is more of a handful than Zamora, who bullied both Kos and Verm.

he is very frustrating,he is a confidence player totaly,i wish his consistancy was a little better but then he plays a few different possitions, but he is here to stay new contract so i hope he finds his feet again gets back to the player he was when he had a good run of games.

I would agree that Djourou is stronger, but he doesn't always know how to use his body well, and his positioning and tackling aren't good enough either
get James Collins! He'd have the likes of Zamora in his back pocket IMO

Not a bad call that about Collins. I saw him linked with someone yesterday. Cannot remember who though. He would be a good squad player for us.

Hannover target defender Djourou
December 31, 2012 - By Stephan Uersfeld, Germany Correspondent
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story ... 0?cc=5739#

Arsenal fringe player Johan Djourou could be bound for Hannover 96 in the January transfer window, according to reports in German newspaper Bild. Djourou, 25, has slipped down the pecking order at Arsenal and, after last year’s successful winter signing of Mame Diouf from Manchester United, Hannover are now keen to add the Switzerland international to their defence. An exhausting first half of the season - with a total of 30 games in only four-and-a-half months - saw the Leinesiders drop back to 11th position in Bundesliga. A lack of squad depth has seen them concede 31 goals, while they crashed out of the German Cup to Borussia Dortmund in late December. Hannover are believed to be ready to pay £1 million to land Djourou as they seek to claim European football again this season. Despite falling back to 11th, the club still only trail the Europa League spots by three points.

Yes! bye. More wages off the bill.
