have to go with flaps. Szczesny is going to be a future number 1. However Fabianski has done better this year and I still don't think we have seen Szczesny tested.

tough one, dont mind either in goal at the moment, fabianski has hit a bit o form but then szczesny looks pretty solid to me, hes came in and not really made any bad mistakes and has made some good saves, being about 6'5 or whatever he is helps aswell

I just hoep Fabs maintains his pre-injury form when he returns... otherwise it's question marks all over again!

Szczesny or Fabianski?

Postby Popey » Wed May 25, 2011 4:23 pm

so what do you think? who should be arsenals new number 1 next season? I think its obvious that almunia will leave and that he's not our number 1 anymore. so who?

Fabianski has made some horrendous mistakes in the past and Szcz is still too young, so its a tough one imo. I went with Fabianski in the end, but I think we may need to bring in an experienced goalkeeper who can command his box and has played in the PL recently just in case

I would pick Szczesny out of the two but I'd rather see an old keeper come in for a year or two just to show the way for their young brains. Brad friedle for a year or something

Fabianski for me. Earlier in our season we had Squillaci playing please note. He was tested often and was parrying shots on goal everywhere. Still remember my shock during the Wolves, City and the CL games.

Wenger sees Szczesny as no.1 for the future and the fact he has come in earlier than expected and done ok , then he will get the nod.
Bob Wilson,Dave Seaman have both claimed Fabianski to be world class!
No need for an old keeper to come in,Lehman might get coaching role?

Fabianski is a much better shot stopper, he has a knack for saving the unsaveable and he is the kind of keeper that can face a dominant team and not concede (Wolves, Man City), he has also sorted out his mentality issues, he is very built as well.

Szczesny on the other hand seems to be more dominant, he is taller, oozes confidence and is a lot younger.

If it were upto me, i would give Fabianski the Number 1 shirt simply because he deserves it given the way he came back after he saved that penalty, that sort of comeback after 2 seasons of mistakes and being berated was nothing short of miraculous.

BUT, we all know AW is going to promote Ches and i don't have a problem with that either.

That's a fair assessment.
