I attempted to restore it, and i got a 1604 error and my Touch went dead, literally bricked itself.
Windows refused to recognise it, stating a driver error, numerous driver installations and restarts and nothing.
Then trawling through the internet for iPod Touch/Phone ubricking i came across a small gem, something that Apple does NOT go through with support.
Basically if the same thing happens to you, hold in the top button, and the button on the front, together, for about a minute, or until you see a CD and iPod cable image, make sure it is plugged in to your PC/Laptop when you do this.
This basically puts your iPod into recovery mode, and for some reason not many people know about it.
Anyway, if you are smart enough to backup your Touch, iTunes will restore your Touch, update it and install everything from your last backup, including settings.
Just thought i would throw this out there as this problem seems to be occuring more and more often.
...Wouldn't have happened with an Archos...

is not better than a blackberry end of story.
