twenty/20 world cup !!!

Ah, the sound of willow on leather! Discuss all aspects of cricket here.

twenty/20 world cup !!!

Postby ozgooner » Tue Sep 11, 2007 6:32 am

so as most of you know i love me cricket also and the twenty/20 world cup starts in sept. some time . aussies go in as favourites but we haven't played much of that form of the game , so we must be ripe for the picking . having said that we should be able to adapt to this twenty/20 format . oz team as follows :
Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Shane Watson.

so who is gunna knock us off , lets name the usual suspects -

south africa ... host nation and cannot be underestimated , runners up
pakistan ... a new captain and coach , not really able to win the tournament
england ... have named a few twenty/20 specialists , desperately need freddie to fire
india ... missing three big names ,Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly all asked not to be considered . dont fancy their chances
new zealand ... fleming gone , so vettori to lead his men to the semis
sri lanka ... is murali's absence a major factor , yes it is . semis also

all in all south africa are the only team for mine capable of knocking us arrogant aussies of our perch
i'd be most interested to find out the cricket fans here views on the matter ;)

I seriously don't think Sachin, Rahul and Sourav would have made a huge difference in the 20 over game. Anyways, the slashers are all there. Sehwag, Dhoni, Uthappa. Should be hilarious, but I hope none of the bowlers come away feeling traumatised.

Not sure if you will be up to watch OZ, but what is going on? 48-4. Not over though cos Zimbabwe will probably be all out for less than that lol.

Not and avid fan of cricket, but I've been following it more and more recently.

Can anyone explain how this 20/20 stuff works? I'm confuzzled. :/

it's like a even more stripped down version of one day cricket , except instead of 50 overs each it is 20 . there is fielding restrictions and the boundaries are moved in so as to encourage big hiting (4's and 6's) i think it takes around four hours for a game to be played and is meant to be exciting for the spectators and viewers on telly . i think it's shite and i personally would rather watch test cricket or sometimes one dayers ;)
